Hello Clock Crew

I'm not sure I'll get any miracle advice but I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm finishing up an animated music video, about three and a half minutes that will be my finest quality individually made animation I've put online (not that its anything too special). I am wondering if anyone has any advice for how to spread it around the web. Obviously it will be on my website, newgrounds and youtube. But I'm never any good at advertising for any of these or am aware of how any of that works.

Any advice?

came here to recommend this, although i don't use reddit, half the time i hear how people discovered something from it.

AstronautClock

viral marketing on 4chan and reddit

SpongeClock SquarePants

Mostly online virality works just the name implies:  like a virus, just be sure to infect a lot of people trough facebook, twitter etc. etc. and then let it increase exponentionaly

StoopidClock

youtube, newgrounds, reddit, tumblr. then just let it do it's thang.

RenegadeClock

Buy a list of stolen email addresses and spam people with your movie link.

Quote from: RibsClock;1874726I'd ask Cast and see if you can get it featured on NG on the front page or something. Newgrounds is big on promoting stuff it likes and in particular artists that promote them.

Whats his ngs username? I mean I'd hope it would get featured anyways.

Quote from: RibsClock;1874726Depending on the subject of the video, I bet there's a few places outside the norm where you could promote it regarding subject matter.
Hm yeah. Not sure what you'd consider the subject matter besides weird/experimental (I mean I made it) :P ...

how the heck does Reddit work anyway?

theres different subreddits found at reddit/r/?????

you go to a specific one, submit your link or some text or whatever

then people upvote/downvote it.

stuff with more upvotes gets to be higher on list and seen  by more people in that subreddit. and the stuff with the most upvotes in general get to be on reddits frontpage

AlbinoClock

Most importantly, your reddit frontpage is sculpted by what you're subscribed to. Some of the default subreddits are terrible, and a lot of the best ones aren't subscribed by default. I recommend adding at least depthhub, truereddit, and askscience to your front page, but you can find more that you might like by clicking the random subreddit button, or by searching for threads on topics you're interested in. Your experience on the site can be very different depending on what subreddits you're using (or not using).

Munglai

but how do people find the things that you post on it? it's the same issue I have with youtube. If I can get my stuff seen by quite a lot of people then they'll get popular but getting them seen by anybody seems pretty impossible unless you're already established.

Thor

If its good it'll get upvoted and seen more. On reddit you get seen simply by producing something of quality*

*the reddit community is just as horrible as newgrounds and 4chan so they might not recognize the quality
Quote from: MafiaMettaurWhat the hell is with that shit you posted? You know what, I'm joining the Locks, just to stop stuff like you!

To be fair, you don't have anything. Clocks are just machines that tick.

In theory. In reality the majority of things sink to the bottom unless they already have a fan base.

AlbinoClock

People subscribed to /r/animation will see your stuff if they look at the new posts tab, or may see it at random in the new posts box at the top of the screen. Of course, if a bunch of us upvote you to give you a boost you'll be visible more quickly.

Yeah see, this here is what I've realized.
It seems the only way to develop a fan base is to start making mario/sonic hentai too :\

reddit has a faster refresh rate than most other portals, so in smaller subreddits you can usually be recognized if it's good quality. The bigger subreddits are usually pretty awful anyway.

Thor

Why not just use the clock crew as your fanbase and link us to your stuff with requests of upvoting? That's pretty much what we do here
