Gaming & Technology / Portal's ending sucks
November 28, 2008, 12:14:27 AM
God damn Portal's ending sucks. I mean, you're going on the thing, and suddenly a huge fire pit comes into view. GlaDOS says something about 4000 degrees kelvin and you fall in. That's it???

YOU FALL INTO A FIRE???

Man. The game is good, but the ending is not.

Spent about an hour on this. Modeled the gun from a box, and the bullets from a cylinder. Criticism?

Gaming & Technology / I just bought AudioSurf.

Holy crap this game is fun. Like GH but in a space ship and you have to make clusters out of notes. Also this game automatically generates tracks for any song you load into it. And it's only $2.49 on Steam and it's going to be that low only for a week so buy it quick.

It has several characters. A few of them:
-Mono - EASY. Collect all colors except gray.
-PointMan - Like tetris. Get colors so they form clusters in your thing.
- Eraser - Like ^ but with the ability to erase colors.

Pokemon Stadium / 3DS MAX Outdoor Lighting Tutorial
November 09, 2008, 07:55:46 PM
Okay.
This is the scene I'll be using. The basic 3DS MAX Lighting.

This sucks. So, I'm going to go to the Create tab of 3DS (the one where you can make primitives, particles, etc.), and click the yellow Lights button at the top. From the Standard section, create a Skylight. Doesn't matter where. Just make one.

[Optional]
Go to its modifier tab, and change the color to pure white. I recommend this.
[/Optional]
Now, if you're using 3DS MAX 2009, click Rendering>Light Tracer. In other versions, I believe it's Rendering>Advanced Lighting>Light tracer.
It will automatically enable. If not, check Active.
Ok! Render!

I added a sphere to show how the light affects it, and I changed the background color to white. This is for cloudy weather.

For sunny, just add a directional light for the top! And enable shadows.

Meh. Finally opened 3DS Max for the first time in a few months. Anyways, two images. The first one - just the model; the second one - with an HDRI background to show refraction.

Gaming & Technology / Ragarawk - GuitaRPG
May 16, 2008, 09:55:29 AM
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6951113.stm

Quote Malcolm Brown, team leader for Voodoo Boogy, said the idea for Ragnarawk was born two years ago. "We're big fans of role-playing games and rhythm games," he said, "though originally it used a dance mat and you danced at your enemies."
But, he said, the growing popularity of games using a guitar-shaped controller prompted them to change tack.
"There have been a number of games that use a guitar controller in Japan particularly but they are only just hitting Europe," he said.
The addition of artist and accomplished guitarist Finlay Sutton to the team cemented their decision to create a "guitar-PG", said Mr Brown.

Just found this.  jNES is a NES emulator for PC. It has a nice simple interface and I found it quite easy to use. You can load in ROMs and save your game at any time by pressing F5. And it requires absolutely no installation. Try it out!
