I can empathize. Right now I'm working  on a 20+ page paper on causality and knowledge. I was in class from 8:30 AM until 6 PM today, and I'm tired and just want to sleep.

Half tempted to finish it in the morning, but I have another shorter paper I have to churn out then.

Crystal was my personal favorite, but I haven't played any of the newer ones.

Same here. I heard a lot of mixed reviews regarding it, and was a little hesitant to go see it, but I finally saw it a couple days ago and was impressed. I loved the way they worked all the little bits of history into the opening credits.

The one thing that really bothered me was at the end. In the movie, Adrian doesn't seek Dr. Manhattan's opinion over whether or not he'd done the right thing. In the novel, that really helped to make Adrian more "human" for me. I wish they'd left that part in.   But other than that, I enjoyed it.

I was exceptionally good at Quake when I was a kid. I was also pretty good at Half Life.

Right now, the only thing I really play is Gears of War 2, and I've gotten through Horde solo, so I'm fairly decent just from the constant practice.

The book in general was an interesting idea, but the ending just killed it for me.

I wasn't expecting to get anything this Christmas since we're really tight on money, but my parents surprised me and got me Rock Band II. My roommates and I stayed up till 4 in the morning playing it, it was great.

My roommate has a hat just like that. Awesome.

I just finished reading this last Tuesday and freaking loved it. My favorite character has to be Ozymandias, mainly because of how low-key he seemed throughout the novel. Also, I sort of expected that he was the one behind the alien invasion at the end, partially because of the fact that he was so under-explored throughout the novel, and partially because it seemed like something his character would do. It was great, the way he justified his actions, and especially when he asked Jon at the end if he'd done the right thing. It made him so much more human, I loved it.

I believed that since there was a New York, New Jersey, New Mexico, etc. that there existed states that were called Old York, Old Jersey, Old Mexico, etc.

  I used to believe that cells were their own separate organic building block, something completely different and separate from atoms (I thought that atoms made up inorganic things and cells made up organic things and that they were entirely different).  

    All through preschool I thought that sounds like “th” and “ch” and “sh” had their own single letter, and I would agonize for hours over the banner we had in the classroom that listed the letters of the alphabet, trying to figure out which letters made the “th,” “ch,” and “sh” sounds. Now that I think about it, though, I don’t really know why I had that problem, ‘cause I could easily read by that point and had no problems with words like “the” or “chair."

I was born with anosmia (the inability to smell), so I went around for the longest time thinking that you had to “learn” how to smell. I remember having to do this assignment in first grade where our teacher put different things with strong scents in paper bags and we had to go around and identify them by smelling them. I cried the whole time because everyone else had learned to smell except for me.

My roommate's red ringed on Saturday. It took us all of 5 minutes before we decided to head up to Wal Mart and get a new one. At 10 at night.

 

One of my roommates got this game a week or so ago and all of us in the house think it's great (we all sit around and watch him, haha). How often do you guys gamble? Some of the games are pretty fun (and addictive, obviously), especially Fortune's Tower, the one with the cards that catch fire.

I have to wait till my roommate gets through the game, but then I'm definitely going to play it.

 I agree with this. I’ve heard philosophy called “the first science,” ‘cause in its earliest form, it meant dealing with the way the world worked. If someone said, “why does this rock fall to the ground when I let go of it?” they were doing philosophy. The questions man had about the world constituted philosophy as a whole. However, over time, a lot of specific disciplines developed from this general inquiry about the worldâ€"disciplines such as math, physics, biology, etc.â€"and kind of found their own niches in terms of what they specifically look at regarding the world.
   
  I think a lot of people dislike philosophy today because of this. Since disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc. have basically been completely separated from what we now know as “philosophy” (I’ll agree that a lot of people today think of philosophy as mainly metaphysics and maybe some epistemology), it’s difficult to find practical, everyday uses for it, at least in comparison to these other disciplines. I’m a philosophy major, and a lot of the classes I take (aside from the logic classes) further emphasize this shift in how philosophy is viewed today. Most of them are history of philosophy classes, or classes exploring certain aspects of philosophy (metaphysics, epistemology, ethics) that seem irrelevant, impractical, or just like “well, that’s just common sense, why teach a class on it?” I just think many people have trouble finding the practical applications of a lot of what we call “philosophy” today, and that’s why a lot of people dislike it.

I don't know if I could definitely say that these are my top three (except for the first one), but they're as close as I can get.
