Ok so I need to clear out a computer and make it like new again where i only have the basic programs installed with the OS intact. I want to install a new OS, but without having to restart and need boot discs, but I also want the computer to be almost blank when I do this, as described above. I don't have the recovery CDs as they have been lost years ago. Is there a way to do this?

if you have vista then just press f11, it will reset the PC to the status it was in when it was shipped.

Hopefully.

If that isn't what you mean then I don't know, but I would suggest you burn a superGRUBdisk, I think that could help.

Back up all your shit, format, install the OS of your choice, reinstall your programs.

Maybe try Ubuntu.

This you can use a live CD to reformat the hard drive so its clean meaning you get a nice clean install.
