Apparently it entered public domain a short while ago, and had been circulating in DVD format.

Some guy who was obsessed after the movie after seeing it as a child uploaded it.

You should be legally obligated to watch this before getting married, having kids, buying a house, or going to Hawaii.

hmm.. why?

I don't think the movie really had any point to make at all... but that is just my opinion. Even so, I thought it was extremely well done.

Blue

A great deal of modern sci-fi pays homage to this classic.

Is it supposed to mean that nothing is real and nothing matters?

I wonder if the view is supposed to be a part of this?  I mean, I think we'd all like to get him out of the cube.

Anyway... I think this is further proof that there was never anything new or innovative about The Matrix.

Ti-83Clock

want to watch this, but its getting late and i have hw :(

it's open to interpretation.

art!!

personally I'm currently leaning toward the interpretation that the cube represents television, and the sad, meandering mockery of human existence it represents

Solenoidclock

I read something like this in a book of short stories called Under Compulsion. I'm really glad I saw this, thanks Slurp.

For one, the black guy is not actually racist. The whiteness he's talking about is plainness, not white culture. The mausoleum to whiteness is a worship of a dead life, with no distinguishing features. He cannot leave his house. He wants to leave his house, but he's become attached. He feels trapped inside it, but he is afraid to leave it. If he leaves, he will be attacked. The gorilla fear is like a crook or natural elements fear. The man who escapes from his cubic prison looks just like him because the architects of the cubes are showing him his life, out of context. That is him leaving his home. Like a sufferer of Stockholm Syndrome he runs back to familiarity. The child coming in is his own. The band telling him he's never going to get out is the music those who feel trapped in their cubes telling them they live sheltered lives, only reminding him that he's never going to get out. He's going to get a job, get married, buy a house, have kids, and die. The reason for this all is our reinforced fear of change and of leaving the cubes. He's terrified by the aging woman because he can see her changing. She's turning into someone different from the image she has projected and he has come to know. The people telling him he can't leave because it's their door are the members of society trapped in their own cubes who psychologically reenforce the idea that it's wrong to leave one's cube. We all want to leave our cubes, the standard work-until-you-die path, and we hear of all the people who have done it, but we ourselves cannot because we fear the vulnerability this presents. The black man tells him he is disgusted with him when he says he can't leave because he CAN leave, he just doesn't want to. He has trapped himself in the cube. To get out, they tell you, you have to make your own door. He starts struggling out his door, that is, actually trying to leave his sheltered existence, but is pulled in by the telephone, an accessory he didn't really need. Comforts. All the telephone did was allow him to talk to people without leaving his home. The clowns say "keep it up folks, or you might think!" EDIT: Actually, it seems he said "you might sing". Entertainment takes up all our time so we don't have to think about how we're just a self-fulfilling prophesy. How we're slowly dying and following the path we never wanted to take and not doing a thing about it. The police arrest him, but they don't take him anywhere visibly. They shut the door behind him, shutting him in prison. The coming in from the other cell with square, not rectangular walls, thinks the cubes are significantly different, but really a house is a prison with different comforts. They even wake him up every morning after his alloted rest period (alarm clock says go to work!) after having trouble getting to sleep at all because he's never going to leave his cube, not until he's dead. This is what kept me from being able to sleep almost every day of middle school, and why I quit public school.

I also think the ramodon or whatever might be a kid, but that's just a guess.

Coincidentally, the main character looks a lot like Emo from Elephants Dream, which also deals with a man who has put himself in a socially acceptable agoraphobic prison.
