i must say, the episodic nature of the source material might actually fit burton. he can't tell a story for shit but alice in wonderland doesn't really have a story. it's more of a series of sketches anyway.

What the fuck, of course he can tell a story. Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood and Big Fish are all great films and had great stories behind them. He just needs to stop letting idiots write his scripts and lay off all the DARK bollocks for a while.

edward scissorhands and ed wood don't really have a story and big fish is more of a series of stories, but there is an arc in the son

the 2 eds are both just really character driven but there's not really a strong plot to them, they're more a series of events. granted, i think that works in both cases and i couldn't picture the films any other way, but stories they ain't.
