So I tried to update to Flock 2.0, and after doing so it crashed every time I tried to run it. So I tried Opera, which I sort of like but it would freeze up on Java quite a bit. I then went to Safari which loaded the pages slow as hell and took up my computer's ram. I tried Chrome which made me feel like I was using "baby's first browser". Firefox was just Flock 2.0, so I decided to try the new beta of IE8.

Oh my god.

It surprisingly runs fantastically, it uses the same "seperate process for each tab" as Chrome, and it has all the functionality of Firefox. And for you people who are "buying a surprise gift for your significant other", there is InPrivate Browsing. The big disadvantage is it uses about the same amount of Memory as Firefox, but as long as you have at least 2gb of ram, you should be fine. I have less than 1gb of ram and a 2.8ghz single core (:wiebel:), but it still runs fast for me. Give it a try at the very least!

I haven't tried IE8 yet, though I've been using Chrome, which I have mixed feelings about. I like the lack of cluttered top bar, the new tab screen, the separate processes, the task manager, the incognito browsing, and how it deals with popups (possibly the best feature). On the other hand, it doesn't seem to have image zoom or no scripts and the lack of menu bars is as annoying as it is refreshing. I've been going between that and firefox lately.

I'll have to give IE8 a shot soon.

Is it still a security nightmare?

Not really. If you have a decent Anti-Virus on your computer, the chance of Malware infecting you is already gone. The built in popup blocker is stronger, and its safe from exploits that affect other browsers (Hello Safari for Windows how are you I'm quite fi- *crash*)

It only needs to take up more memory than iTunes to achieve these features!

The Mac-o-philiac at my school who says - and I quote- "If its made by Apple its 100% better than anything else". It's also running better than Firefox was for me so I'm sticking with it.

Ah, well then. Glee.

DiscoBallClock

I'm fine with Firefox, but I might give it a try.

I would probably switch over to Chrome if it had adblock and would import my bookmarks properly.

Most of the addons in firefox have IE8 alternatives (i've checked so far, most of my firefox addons are there)

SnakeClock

Well IE8 is perfect then. Why is mankind bothering to advance at all?

:this: This is incredible. But I'd say IE is more like this:

I love chrome, but mostly for the one feature it has that firefox and the others don't.... I can drag a tab out of the window, to spawn it as another window and vice versa.

My monitor is so huge that I very rarely maximize anything, especially not the browser, because no website is designed to span across that many pixels propperly, so I usually split the screen into 4 quadrants using a program called AllSnap (just to make it easier to keep the windows orientated nicely. So I usually have 2 or 3 instances of chrome, each with several tabs, but it is nice to be able to see 2-4 web pages fully displayed at once without a bunch of tabs.

Chrome also handles downloads really well. BUT it lacks a full-screen mode, which would be great when watching a movie via a flash player (the typical full-screen mode of flash players drastically reduces quality, where as spanning a pop-up to full screen forces flash to render smoothing to whatever resolution you push it to). I also like the way chrome handles pop-ups, letting you drag them up if you need them is quite elegant, and the status bar is only displayed partially when needed, instead of always taking up space, and I love how it moves out of the way when you need it to.

I typically hate IE, but I'll give it a try, just to see if it can hold a candle to chrome.

hmmm, that's odd, it seems to me like IE8 runs slower than firefox

It takes longer to get to the next page, but when it gets there its fully loaded for me rather than going there then loading.
