I get pissed when religious people get signs and shit like this put up, and I'm pretty sure most other Atheists do as well. So how the fuck is it any better for us to do it? I now have next to no respect for Richard Dawkins.

EDIT: I don't want anyone's beliefs or lack thereof shoved in my face.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1431270Well, I hate how you say "us" we're not a group -- we "Atheist" folk. You have successfully completed the task of the slogans, congratulations. The reason they put the slogans on were to get people talking about Atheism and Christianity, again. Apparently, they work. For better or worse.

I didn't mean to group all atheist together. I just made the assumption that the brainwashing done by some religions is something that tweaks off 95% of people who don't believe in any of it. I see this as an Atheist using Religion's tricks, and it's not only rude (when either side does it), but it's hypocritical as hell when a group of Atheists do it.

GearBoxClock

I wonder if anyone would complain if it was a religious slogan...

I would. Neither side should be shoving their shit in the other's face.

True. I am just kinda annoyed that I'm preached at everywhere I go.

Marlin Clock

I think the poster is sort of funny.

I wouldn't mind it as much if there wasn't the bottom line.

The line "There probably isn't a God, so stop worrying and enjoy life." seems a bit oxymoronic, in that it's saying there might or might not be a God, but go against him anyway.

It would have made more sense if the first part said "There is no God," or the second part said "so you might want to think about it."

GearBoxClock

I think they mean that you should just ignore the idea of him

Which is why this is a form of reverse preaching, thus still shoving shit in people's faces.

Some people just like being jerks?

Roman I can't find it in me to even slightly believe that you would classify preaching as being a jerk.

I have nothing Constructive to add right now.

I'd have to say there's a difference between preaching and saying you're going to hell.

I can't find any of those three words on the banner. I only see someone blatantly shoving their beliefs (or lack thereof) in my face. Again. This time from a different direction, though.

Marlin Clock

Nevermind. I don't think it's right to get up in someone's face about it but I don't see the harm in publicly displaying beliefs peacefully.

There isn't really any harm, persay, but it's unnecessary. Why do people need to know your beliefs? (not directed at you, rhetorical based on the situation) Why can't people who believe or don't believe in things keep it to themselves, except in debate areas or open discussion of course. Are films, billboards and signs really necessary? Do people find that much of a need to spread their personal matters around to as many people as possible?

AlbinoClock

Well, it looks like the Church of Atheism is just as obnoxious and condescending as any other group based on a sense of self-righteousness surrounding some arbitrary belief.

Oh well. The joke's on them.

AlbinoClock

Quote from: CadillacClock;1431514Once again, Atheism is not a group, the acts of a few do not effect the acts or opinions of the many. But you know that, jerk.

The British Humanist Society is a group, jerk.

That may be so, but they're the British Humanist Society, not the Church of Atheism. As far as I know, there is no Church of Atheism, nor should there be. For me, the whole point of atheism is that you don't have to worry about organized religion and the accompying obligations that get in the way of one's enjoyment of life.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the British Humanist Society when he says "Church of Atheism".
