Oh good, Windows 7 is trash too.

Quote from: Ghost of Christmas Past;1529155Are you even paying attention to the posts any more? He isn't talking about whether there exist ways to copy media, but about the fact that Microsoft is actively working against it own users to prevent them from using media that they have the rights to. While I believe your DVD Ripper worked, the chances are they had to do a shitload of work to circumvent the DRM. It's the fact the Microsoft is putting up obstacles, not whether they can be destroyed, that matters. You should also keep in mind all the Trusted Computing bullshit. Although (to the best of my knowledge) it is mostly unimplemented on Windows 7, this is the kind of stuff that leads down that road (hence calling Windows 7 a piece of trash).

And why the attacks on Linux? Like Corpsegrinder said and you quoted, this is about whether or not Windows 7 is any good, not your irrelevant whining about another OS (which I assume were a failed attempt to make Albino look bad). Sure, Slashdot is biased, but look at yourself. Seriously.

Don't pull your "use it before you diss it" remark, either. IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED, Microsoft is no longer offering downloads of the beta, and I'm not in the mood to "borrow" a copy.

Maybe Albino (as well as the slashdot poster) was overhyping, but he's got a valid point. Windows 7 has built in DRM, and that's something that's going to keep me from touching it until the hardware companies stop shipping XP drivers ( unless WINE gets a lot better by then, in which case I would likely ditch Redmond completely, but that's another story). Either admit the facts, get a defense that isn't a load of bullshit, or shut your trap. Ok?
Lol, who are you? Btw, Windows XP has DRMs as well. Just uh, throwing that out there. As for "Linux Bashing", by no means am I hating on Linux. If anything, I love Linux, and still use it quite often. I really see no sense in arguing the point, since both Albino and I have worked it out outside of the forums since my last post. And yes, I've used a "dont diss it until you try it" because honestly thats what you need to do. I love how what you're doing is fitting the obvious mold that many people place Linux Zealots into, the one that I found myself in a while back. I'd like you to get your facts straight too: The only new thing about the Windows 7 DRM is that it isn't as strict.

By the by, the fact about "copying their own material" was already established. It only affects material that has a DRM placed on it already, such as a copyrighted movie or song purchased from a music store that still uses DRMs. I have no problem copying any other media thank you, and there are plenty of ways to access around the ones otherwise (though I have no reason to cause I'm DEFINATELY NOT A PIRATE OH FFS)

I still have XP is there anything special I'm missing out on ?

As far as I know, not really. If you've got a multi-core processor, there are some performance enhancements for that. According to Wikipedia the boot time is also faster and there are some other performance improvements. Other than that, most of the changes have been in the interface. If you don't want to spend money, the changes are probably small enough that you could skip it without losing sleep, but on the other hand the 'shiny new gadgets' seem to be fairly useful this time around.

A couple of things:
I don't really consider myself so much a zealot as just a dick. I was arguing after all.
By "their own material" I was including other people's stuff they have a license for, and your post made it sound (to me, anyway) like you were denying that. But really, if you guys have worked the argument out, I suppose there isn't much point in arguing any further (except maybe entertainment).

I really don't find much entertainment in arguing, and I'm sorry if some of my statements seemed a bit inaccurate or aggressive. As for performance improvements, the only way i can gauge that is it can run quickly on a 1.6ghz atom processor.

I'd have to say the same thing, apart from updating Firefox, I don't update anything nowadays and all my programs are working perfectly. Why would I need to upgrade to 7 and get through all the hassle when I could just install Linux and still use the stuff I'm using now?

In the last two weeks, I've had some moron every day on one of my IMs babbling to me about how 7 is awesome and how Aero is cumtastic. I tell him that I don't care and that I don't need it therefore it would only be a downgrade since it uses more RAM for the same thing I can do on XP or Linux. I don't care about Direct X 9001 and Adobe Monopolytastic Flash CSluggish 6. And my computer is barely able to play Left 4 Dead, so why would I upgrade in the first place before changing my computer?

Yay I finally got XP after 8 years of ME and I'm glad it's not obsolete yet
