ToyotaClock

There were better times.

AnkhClock

Well there were several different forms of a Clockification system.
Which do you mean?

ToyotaClock

Any form of manual validation on these forums would be an improvement.

AnkhClock

So you mean the original method where admins just clockified anyone when they felt like it more or less?

FlossClock

I liked the system I had to go through, with nominations and a monthly vote. It was a convoluted, broken, elitism-spawning popularity contest with limitless problems, but goddammit, it was fun. It forced you to make connections, make flash, not be a dick, and overall become more involved and caring about the community.

I don't care how many problems it caused or how much extra work it is. It was awesome.

ToyotaClock

I don't see a problem with elitism. The only things we would lose with Clockification are potential members that shouldn't be a part of the community anyway. I believe that if the community does not want a person to join it, they should have the ability to reject them. Not to mention that it provides motivation for animating; a debatable point, but surely we can all agree that it wouldn't hurt our output.

FossilClock

tl;dr version: Elitism in art groups and inclusion that you have to work for is awesome because it produces QUALITY from the member

Also activity and participation in things

Quoter0m says:
Do you support the reinstatement of Clockification?
r0m says:
or some alternative form of Validation
Kith says:
To become a Clock, one should put forth some kind of effort.
Kith says:
I wholeheartedly support the reinstatement of Clockification.
Kith says:
... Even though I became a clock through the six month method.
r0m says:

r0m says:
i was clockified
r0m says:
and i want that system back
r0m says:
it worked
r0m says:
and it provided for a better time
r0m says:
our current method has done us nothing but allow any faggot access to the clock crew
r0m says:
and has put them in our ranks
Kith says:
It's a simple process of register, do nothing for six months, and then parade around as a clock as if one has earned it.
Kith says:
I consider myself a contributor to the community because I do shit for people for no other goddamn reason other than to do stuff for CC, so I kind of feel that I've earned it.
r0m says:
I'm not even of the belief that one necessarily needs to earn Clockification, other than by proving themselves to be a competent artist and a competent poster.
Kith says:
However, if they wish for me to earn it again through Clockification, I'll have no complaints.
r0m says:
i believe if a clockification system was reinstated all existing official clocks would most likely remain so.
Kith says:
I essentially went on a hiatus from everything for no apparent reason and returned to CC to find that I'd be a Clock within two weeks.
Kith says:
I'm very happy to be a clock, yes, but the six month system is just not fair. I was rewarded for doing a grand total of fuck all.
r0m says:
I think that ultimately, only good can come from a Clockification system. Potential clocks have to learn the culture, prove themselves to be competent posters and mildly-talented artists, and they have to prove to the community that they are worth accepting.
r0m says:
We lose nothing but certain potential members that shouldn't be a part of the community anyway.
Kith says:
Exactly.

Loki Clock

How about the system where we get rid of the 6-month period, because it's useless, and go back to just having all members become clocks immediately?

AnkhClock

I became a Clock after helping NorwayClock out with some shit. He PM'ed Pineapple asking him to Clockify me and well here I am.

Agreed. And they don't have to masters at flash, just putting in the effort in the community (or working on some other stuff like programming or music) is enough to earn Clockhood.

I'm afraid that doesn't quite work out as well as it used to because members who flamed new idiot recruits are less active (such as Arctic or Triangle) or seem to have mellowed out more (like Golden).

That would be worse.

I look back to my original point, and that is, if the community does not want someone to be a part of it, they should have the right to reject them. That way, not only are people motivated to work for something, but we can also have some hand in weeding out the undesirables, rather than leaving it up to the admins to eventually (hopefully) ban them. If you honestly believe that everyone that joins this forum should be a part of the community immediately, then vote yes on every single new member. I have a feeling that not everyone agrees with you on that issue, and they have as much right to decide on how the community should be run as you.

I got Clocked by Leek w/ help from SpinningCube 'n' Floppydisk.

AnkhClock

Actually, now that I think about it (and re-reading my PMs) I think the entire reason I was clockified was because Norway liked me for some reason and/or I taught Possum Clock how to use movieclips.

Flounderpa

the old system was elitist...so?, I don't see any problem with that

maybe if you revert the old system, in something like if you don't want him to get clockified you give an example of his post and a good reason on why not, the admins use his criteria if it's a good point and then declare the results...

I think this could work

I agree with this.

If you want to make flash do it for the love of art, not because you want to have "official clock" under your name in some fucking internet forum.

Im not going to post a long boring rant on how I'm a edgy teen the clockification system was, or any system that works with meaningless labels like clock or clocklings. I'm confident the people in power share my perspective and it won't be necessary to discuss this any further (we have done this time and time again, the result is always the same).

However i do like the "everybody who joins is a clock" idea, although it's not so much an idea as it is getting rid of all the useless crap we have now. We didn't need a "clockification" system from '01 till '06 and im kinda wondering why we ever implemented it in the first place.. probabbly because some elitist dicks felt that they deserved the title more then some newguy.

I think a review of the last system of voting would be appropriate.

Such as a decent contribution can mean your deserving of a rank promotion.
Anyone can create an account and be around for 6 months, but to put the effort in and contribute to an art based community in anyway deserves recognition and rewards.

I don't agree with having it elitist again like "Us 4 don't like you so your fucked" style system, just something saying X Clock has Submitted Y Flash and thus is deserving of it.

I got clocked on Clock Day.

No, it was because everybody wanted to join the CC after people started making quality animations, and certain clocks realized that the community would be overrun with Newgrounds BBS faggots if there wasn't some way for the community to protect itself.

It doesn't matter to me that I'm called by a title that I earned on an internet forum, what matters to me is being able to enjoy a community that I have been a part of for almost three years. If I wanted to read posts by people that came from the NG BBS, I would go to the NG BBS, and there's a reason I don't go there. I don't enjoy the people there, I don't enjoy reading their posts, nor do I find any humor or other connection to them. I come to the Clock Crew forums because I enjoy reading some of the posts and have connections with some of the members.
