Sinister Clock

We could always have a completly new system which is thought out somewhat. Like any clock can vote towards any clockfriend once and once they get enough votes they become a clock or something. Like all those gay karma mods they have on pirated vbulletin forums.

I mostly agree with most people in this thread.

Anyways, yeah, bring it back!

Quote from: FlossClock;1572480I liked the system I had to go through, with nominations and a monthly vote. It was a convoluted, broken, elitism-spawning popularity contest with limitless problems, but goddammit, it was fun. It forced you to make connections, make flash, not be a dick, and overall become more involved and caring about the community.

I don't care how many problems it caused or how much extra work it is. It was awesome.

this is how i feel

Quote from: ToyotaClock;1572951No, it was because everybody wanted to join the CC after people started making quality animations, and certain clocks realized that the community would be overrun with Newgrounds BBS faggots if there wasn't some way for the community to protect itself.

It doesn't matter to me that I'm called by a title that I earned on an internet forum, what matters to me is being able to enjoy a community that I have been a part of for almost three years. If I wanted to read posts by people that came from the NG BBS, I would go to the NG BBS, and there's a reason I don't go there. I don't enjoy the people there, I don't enjoy reading their posts, nor do I find any humor or other connection to them. I come to the Clock Crew forums because I enjoy reading some of the posts and have connections with some of the members.

Well we'll always have mods like Biggs and admins like Slurpee, who are more than willing to ban clockfans/ clocks for acting like dumbfucks. I really don't think it's that much of an issue.

But I don't think thats enough. Sure the clockfan gets banned for a couple days, but then he goes right on doing whatever he was doing before his ban. While they're are a good number of new Clocks who pick up on the Clock way, there will always be those who need a little extra push.
Trust me, I was a douchebag when I joined. Thank God for Golden.
EDIT: and real life too I guess

I liked having to earn my clockhood, I now have the right to be a dick.
There should be some kind of motivation for new members, but clocks should also encourage them more instead of chasing them away in their introduction thread.

Kaijuclock

Silly Newbs, im from a time before the earning of ones clockhood! I didn't have a problem with it, and actually a clockification style system on a previous site is the reason this one was built. With mod's doing there proper job a clockification system is needed at all. Just remember .co.uk

wow, who the fuck died and told you you know what you're talking about?

the clockification system was a chip off of the massive caste restructuring proposal back in 2005 that none of you know about.

it started with a bullshit .doc file piney typed out a long time ago about how to pimp out the clock crew into a big fancy internet secret society after the big fall in 2003. it wasn't taken seriously, and wasn't meant to be, but in response to the problems we were having in 2005 that none of you remember, strange created a forum structuring proposal (when he was creating clocktopia to keep everybody safe from Bitler's moodswings) that touched on similar themes without being as insane, and the staff went for it. it got some punch up from albino and absinthe, and Clockification was actually the first step in implementing it.

to give you an idea of how fucking wacky this is, this is what the proposal looked like, and I only feel safe sharing this publicly because it's insane and almost 4 years old:
QuoteOuter Court:
Those who have not attained Clockhood. PineappleClock once said that the mere change of a name does make a clock. These people do not yet know the restructured Clock Crew. Some of them never will. They have access to the site as it is now, but their name does not bear the title "Clock".

Those who show promise will have a poll set up in the initiated forum, as to whether or not they should be allowed into the Order of Zipstyke. Those who get over 80% appoval will be entered into the Order of Zipstyke, and "Clock" will be added to their username.

Inner Court:

Uninitated:
Order of Zipstyke - Former outer court members being considered for allowance into the initiated orders are entered into the Order of Apple during their evaluation, and given the title of "Clock". They are not aware of their position in the Order. They'll begin to be instructed on Clock history and the various skills needed to be a clock, while being closely monitored. It is very important at this stage that their "training" seems casual. We can't let them suspect that they're getting close to a secret until they enter the first initiated order.

Initiated:

Order of Apple - When a user is initated into the order of Apple, they take an oath of secrecy. They acknowledge that if they break this oath, they will be permabanned, and disowned as a clock. They are then shown a secret forum.

Order of Raspberry - Additional duties include finding those worthy of the Order of Zipstyke and bringing them through their training, as well as discussing the status of their students with the inner head.

Outer Head:
Order of Orange - All site staff are members of the order of Orange.

Inner Head:
Order of Strawberry - Advisors to the keepers of B.
Keepers of B - Admins.
the idea was to restore some of the mystery and allure that the Clock Crew had from 2001-2003, and was reliant on the fact that, at the time, this website was thought of as the Clock Crew, and not just a Clock Crew website.

the proposal was, obviously, never fully implemented, for a variety of reasons, but the clockification system remained, and over the course of 5 months 13 months was eventually upgraded to the automated system most of you probably remember, where we just haphazardly swept the entire userbase into the "Clock" category, arranged a voting system that seemed like it would work, and explained it to you folks.

clockification fell into bad times, and a lot of us fought tooth and nail to kill the bloody thing, for a number of reasons which I will reiterate for the umpteenth time:
:lantern: The system relied on the principle that if you were a good person, and made good flash, you'd be democratically recognized by your peers with the clock usergroup. This sounds good, until you realize it suggests that being good and doing flash is exceptional behavior that requires some kind of outside reward to happen, so once people were clockified, their behavior and production took a sharp decline, as there were no further rewards to be garnered.
:lantern: I personally don't think there's anything wrong with elitism, as long as it's the elite that are doing it, and as long as it's practiced with restraint, which was never the case, at all, with clockification. Every new member was made into a target, no old members were.
:lantern: "Clockhood" being "granted" by any of the currently regularly active members of the Clock Crew is ridiculous, because who the fuck let us in?
:lantern: A system like clockification is ideally supposed to reflect which members of the forum are in good standing, and the democratic system undermines that. People were AIMing and PMing, begging for votes, others were voting for their friends from outside of the site, and then once they were in, doing it some more. The entire thing became meaningless over its short lifespan, and that's not an exaggeration.

I understand the desire for the community at large to be an accurate representation of our collective social preference, but clockification is crazy frat house borderline prior restraint bullshit, and it's the second one of such systems to completely fall apart when attempted to be applied to the clock crew (I guess I'm the only one on the planet that remembers the Clock Crew Community.)

Fuck your nostalgia.

Slurpee

But I guess if it would make y'all feel any better I could open a discussion in der grid.

I'm standing i opposition to this, you guys do your job good enough, we don't fucking need it.

Do it, so i can make another posts stating my disgust for the label "clock" as being something you have to earn.

Also because posting in the gird makes me feel important and helps my self-esteem.

as opposed to people just joining up and not doing jack shit to begin with

in all honesty who the fuck cares, i was a clockfriend during these times and you guys havent made me suicidal yet so they can get the fuck over it

introducing a new initiation process does not mean you have to hit the restart button on clock crew

the clock crew has never been more meaningless than now

EnglishClock

I think the clock crew seniors need to start acting more elitist! It's like an automatic filter for the typical NGer who comes in and acts like they're hot stuff and don't have to do anything, they won't post shittily all over the place because they're too scared of getting flamed, so they lurk for longer periods of time so they can get the idea. I know I was like that when I signed up because of scarey folks like golden etc!

Also, seniors setting an example of how to act when both posting and creating flash should be the only clockification system we need. Oh and get rid of the six month wait, make everybody a clock when they sign up.

This. When I was clockified by the introduction of the new system, I was kinda disappointed because I didn't earn it. If we bring this system back, I want to be a clockfriend/fan again, just so I can actually earn the right to actually be called a Clock.

I know the system encouraged the hell out of me to work.
if there were two guys on the moon and one of them killed the other with a rock that'd be pretty fucked up wouldn't it?

Sinister Clock

Clock Crew was never about work it was about annoying people.

AnkhClock

In all honesty I'd be totally in favor of scrapping the Clockification system if we were allowed to be dicks to the new members. I just feel that people aren't going to try to flame anyone new because it risks banishment.
I think a good compromise would be to make some sort of edict allowing (at least) moderate trolling in the welcome forum.
