Poltergeist

Yeah, originally I thought Locke was going to metaphorically "kill" Jacob by burning down the cabin as a symbol of him being the leader, but then he actually said "I'm going to kill Jacob" and I felt bad because I liked my idea more

Anyway it was a great episode but serious what the fuck I loved faraday

Poltergeist

I can't believe Abrams has the fucking stones to end the series like that and make us wait months for the next episode

My theoruy was the person possessing Locke was an older version of Jacob, which is why a loophole was needed for Jacob to be killed.

Poltergeist

Quote from: Franklin G. Hamilton;1580554uhhhhh evil locke was the fucking dude at the beginning of the ep at the foot of the statue with jacob

I know that, I thought the two of them looked very similar. It makes sense, too:
Older Jacob has lived through this before, and knows how it will end, so he is insanely pissed when his younger self does not listen to his warnings, so much that he wants to kill him. However, he can't because then he would also die, ergo in order for Jacob to kill his younger self, he needs a loophole

Poltergeist

Quote from: CadillacClock;1580569That's even more ludicrous than the current set up. Especially since they existed at the same time and at relatively the same age.

Secondly, you can't kill yourself (younger) and still exist in the present. Time doesn't work that way. Not on LOST and not according to Physics.

Hahahahahahahahahaaha oh my God you brought physics into this

They can be there are the same time due to time travelling, they can appear similar ages due to Richards magic age-relief. I'm just offering up an idea I think is neat, plus I said a loophole was required in order for younger him to die - as hardcore a LOST fan as I am, I don't think the writers actually care abouth their own "rules"

Poltergeist

Quote from: CadillacClock;1580589Jesus Christ, you're stupid. What was Faraday? What did he do for a living? Eloise? Whidmore? They are all or have been physicist and they have all followed the simple rule that time is linear. As it is.

Yes, they do. They do for this. That's why they're following and have trumped up that it is a linear time scale. There is no loop hole in time. That would destroy the foundation of it.

Desmond?

You're tooting Faradays horn like this is an actual absolute science and he is the be-all end-all of knowledge on it - if the writers should choose, they will do whatever they want, and they've already shown they can do whatever they want with time by having Desmond screw around with his past and constantly mention loopholes - you know, the key theme of the last episode this series?

Finally, LOST is a show were a dead mans body is possessed featuring a monster made out of smoke, time travel, dissapearing horses and magical cursed numbers. If you keep thinking LOST if going to have a scientific and explainable ending (or at least one using real science) you'll probably be dissapointed

Biblo

I'm really interested to see how you think the idea of not ageing could possibly explain why two people around the same age that look completely different are the same person

Poltergeist

Quote from: CadillacClock;1581013Never changed time, now did he? I'm pretty sure Eloise was expecting him, even. All he represented was a speaker-box to the present.

I'm fairly sure he did - unless we assume that when he was in the army he suddenly went "WOAH WERE AM I???" then immediately forget why he said that without anyone bringing it up again.

And also let's not forget he convinced Penny not to move - and finally if he didn't change time we're meant to assume he just went to Oxford to look for a man he had never met before and did not know for no actual reason the first time?

Poltergeist

Quote from: CadillacClock;1581083Hey! I bet if I go back in time I could give your mom an abortion and then you wouldn't be born, right? I mean, that way I would NEVER have read this post. That's how time works, right?

The most fun here is that you keep talking about this as if it is an actual science.
Seriously, J.J. Abrams does not give a shit, he just wants to make a kooky sci-fi. Watch one episode of Fringe and you'll be convinced he's willing to break his own rules if it suits where he wants the story to go.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1581083No, you have not been following the bouncing ball hard enough. That DID NOT change the past. It only reflected onto the PRESENT.

So something that did not actually happened affected the present? Yes - that makes complete sense.

I'm sorry guys I know I should be working way harder because Lost is such serious buisiness

Poltergeist

No one knows Lost like I do

Poltergeist

Well gosh guys I'll think next time before making a casual comment on a mystery-driven show, thanks!
