Sporza Retro is an online service of the VRT, the flemish publicly funded broadcasting network. Every day, a sports clip is shown of a big event that occurred that day, Sporza has been doing this since this April. They primarily show clips of sports that are really popular in Belgium or Europe, so don't expect to see much baseball or American football. Most of the clips are about football (or soccer), cycling, tennis and track and field.

This thread is here to have a discussion about the clips posted by Sporza Retro.
Seeing as this thread is made on August 8, let's start with today's clip.

This is a cool concept for a website. It's a shame they don't play many of the main sports over here, but they do play sometimes?

AUGUST 12 1990: THIERRY BOUTSEN WINS THE 1990 F1 GP OF HUNGARY

QuoteHungary was next and the Williamses qualified ahead of the McLarens, Boutsen taking pole ahead of Patrese, Berger, Senna, Mansell and Alesi. At the start, Boutsen kept the lead but it was Berger went away best and passed Patrese while Senna was worst and lost out to both Mansell and Alesi. Thus, it was Boutsen, Berger, Patrese, Mansell, Alesi and Senna.

It stayed like that on lap 21 when Senna passed Alesi for fifth but he was forced to pit on the next lap with a slow puncture. Nannini soon passed Alesi to take fifth. The leaders stopped and Berger was the big loser with Nannini and Senna the big gainers, rising directly behind the Williams men. The order was: Boutsen, Patrese, Nannini, Senna, Mansell and Berger. Boutsen then pulled away while Patrese held up the others until Nannini streamed by with Senna following him.

Patrese then pitted and dropped behind Piquet as Berger passed Mansell only for Mansell to get back at him. Senna tried to pass Nannini on lap 64 and tipped Nannini into a spin and retirement. Berger tried to do the same thing on Mansell on lap 72 at the same corner with the same result - a collision but with both cars out. Boutsen won ahead of Senna, Piquet, Patrese, Warwick and Bernard.

AUGUST 19 1984: NIKI LAUDA WINS THE GP OF AUSTRIA

QuoteFrom pole Piquet led until lap 39, when rear tyres excessive consumption made him slow down. But, previously at lap 28, he had demonstrated great ability to control his car, as he and Prost crossed De Angelis oil at Rindts corner getting sideways. Althoght Prost lost control of his car and shunt (he was driving with one hand due to shift crack). Lauda took the lead, but with few laps to flag, he suddenly slowed with gearbox problems. Somehow he got speed again, but was clearly in with big problems. Unbeliavable that nobody advised Piquet, in 2nd, to push the limit to catch Lauda...

TOMORROW YOU WILL SEE JUSTINE HENIN WIN GOLD IN THE ATHENS OLYMPICS IN TENNIS!!

The dream team really did live up to its name. It was all the greatest players near their prime. Hell, with Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan on the same team, you could probably just have had those three play and they'd still won by at least ten each game.
