Actually the Burka etc. is not required and is never mentioned anforcé. Even in Saudi Arabia you are allowed to walk without any of those clothing restraints however in doing so you invite yourself to be raped and sentanced in moral court for luring men with your womanly charm.

You can read up on it all you want but to experience it is quite different. In all honesty it's just as silly as christian fundamentalists and nothing beyond that point.
My father is a Muslim and he hates anyone who wears a Burka/Headscarf outside fervently religious countries because they are hypocrits of true Islam just as Christians who feel a need to proclaim their religious superiority are hypocrits of true christianity.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1669121You do realize the Jedi are based off Eastern religions and legends as well as cultural icons, right?
Because Muhammed led the Arabic world to victory against the Clone army of Zoroastrianism.

So we come to a positive agreement.

CadillacClock I am most impressed and humbled.

Oh and I found the verse I was looking for regarding the hypocritism of showing your faith and "taking a stand" for it with silly things like clothing and tokens:
Matthew Chapter 6,
Verse 6.

"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. "

The whole passage is actually quite humbeling and saddening in the fact that it shows how many of todays believer have strayed from their own religion.

Verse 2.
“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full."
Verse 3.
“But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,"
Verse 4.
"So that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you."
Verse 5.
“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full."

The entire point here is that it's absurd to expect people in the world to work around those who believe in irrational practises.

Why should I be expected to adjust my life in order to placate the irrational beliefs of others? It's their choice to live that way, it's not my burden.

Any arguments saying that something is a "real" religion is moronic because the only thing that makes it "real" is that enough people get pissed off if you tell them it's not real, despite all evidence to the contrary.

PowerGloveClock

i should join this religion and not wear a hood and say i'm a rogue jedi

Every guy wants to be his  friend and every girl wants to date him. Understandably Slurpee is not a  very happy person.

To be perfectly honest, I never announce what I give and I don't pray out loud for that very reason. Though churches, the ones I've been to at least, can never really be heard from the outside, which is what I think that's talking about.

I fucking wish religions were true... Jedi Vs Jesus anyone?

To be fair, you don't have anything. Clocks are just machines that tick.

RabidClock

If I had to pick a religion I'd rather be a Jedi; at least Starwars isn't a chore (unless you count watching Jar Jar AMIRITE?). Faith is blind, and unfortunately that effects our reasoning to hope that some centuries old equivalency to a guy that talks to God in Central Park was correct. Makes me scared for humanity.

AmberArachnidClock

Religon is just another thing you have to think about. I'd personally rather focus on other things. And I'm too old to be a jedi now... :(

GearBoxClock

I'd rather be a droid.

Everyone would either love me if I'm an Astromech, or despise me if I'm a Battledroid.

Slurpee

Quote from: Roadkill;1669033...Why is wearing a hood a requirement of the 'religion'?
dunno if anyone's answered this yet but the hoods are part of the jedi robes that jedi wear because they are sworn to a life of modesty and humility, and without possessions (except for a lightsaber.) the robes are usually of a neutral brown color and are symbolic of the selfless compassion of the jedi order. (this is probably why obi wan always took them off when he was getting ready to kill something.) it's not entirely dissimilar from monastic garb (e.g. the practice of tonsure in eastern orthodox christianity or how the buddhist bhikkhu are permitted only to carry their robes, a razor, a needle, an alms bowl, and a water strainer)

Quote from: RibsClock;1669266You're welcome, and thank you for thinking it was out of a genuine desire to inform you on the religious practices of Islam and not out of a humorous realization you didn't actually want an answer to the question you already had an opinion formed on the matter. It makes it funnier.
In that case thanks for trolling me.

Quote from: RibsClock;1669266Oh wait, like, now do you actually want an answer or are you just "making a point"?

Because there's good answers but somehow I don't think you actually want to hear them.
Yes I want an actual answer to that question, because in my opinion they are both very real. The Jedi religion is officially recognized as a religion so I don't get why you don't show them the same respect as any other religion.
