Biblo

Quote from: RibsClock;1669266Because there's good answers but somehow I don't think you actually want to hear them.

I really don't see how there can be any genuinely good answers.
The only thing I can think of is that the formation of Islam happened during a period in history when events weren't strictly and formally recorded unlike the Jedi religion. We know for a fact that the Jedi religion was based on a Hollywood film. We don't absolutely know where the stories and practises of Islam originated from, because any knowledge about it is was sought after the fact.

But the point here,
is that without hard evidence, all religious stories, legends and practises are no different from copying what they do in Star Wars, or Terminator, or Care Bears.
It doesn't matter how long the religion was around for, how many members are in it, what the practises mean or don't mean. So arguing about them is useless.

Biblo is always better at saying the things I want to say than I am.

Quote from: RibsClock;1669429Sorry but somehow I don't think you do.

You already have a set opinion, that religion is all made up. And you're welcome to it, I used to hold that opinion as well. But really I have very little reason to believe you have any interest in what I have to say on the matter.

Let's be honest here; what do you know about Islam at all to be calling it made up? Have you ever read the Quran? I've sure watched Star Wars a bunch of times, and I think I can say that it's all made up. Even the major practitioners of it readily admit to taking a lot of things from other religions, in particular Buddhism and Taoism by their own admission. If the people who came up with it admit it's made up, that's a pretty clear indicator.

So if you want one big difference? One is clearly, obviously, and by its own admission made up. The other one? If you don't know, maybe you ought to look into it.
I'm curious as to what your thoughts on religion are exactly. Is there one god or are there multiple gods like the ancient Greeks believes. The way I see it if god did exist there would be only one religion and not thousands of different religions. Most religions that are around today are simply a mish mash of older religions twisted and molded together to form what it is today.

The Quran and the Bible and other religious books are great stories, but I can't take them more serious than a Disney movie.

If you look at what L Ron Hubbard did and why he did it I think it it's easy to believe someone with the same mindset wrote the Quran.

Here's some food for thought:

do you believe in the islam corpsegrinder?

DWARFINATORclock

Quote from: RibsClock;1669447Dwarf, really, do you actually care what I think about it? Be honest.
Seems more to me that you don't want to tell me because I don't know how many time I have to keep asking it, all you do is say I don't really want to hear it.

Quote from: RibsClock;1669447But see, you still haven't answered my question. Have you ever read the Quran?

Yes I have actually, I have it in ebook form on my computer.

Quote from: RibsClock;1669452Yes, I am a Baha'i, so Islam is as much a part of my faith as Judaism is to Christianity or Christianity is to Islam.
why are you a Baha'i?
did something happen in your life that made you change your religion to that?

Quote from: RibsClock;1669468And then, another fundamental cause for the diversity of religions is simple human disagreement. Different clergy have broken away and formed their own sects, different followings have broken off and become different religions, people have decided that they didn't like how a religion was and started their own version of it to suit them.
Why doesn't someone set them straight?

Quote from: RibsClock;1669468In conclusion, while it's by-in-large different parts of the same overall religion revolving around the same Deity, division and human ego has veiled people from seeing this reality for the breadth of human history.
And you've read it completely and openly and still feel that it's "just a story" to be compared with Star Wars or a Disney movie?
How do you explain the ancient Greeks, they certainly don't believe in a single deity. Are their beliefs just cast away as if they were a Star Wars movie?

Quote from: RibsClock;1669468And you've read it completely and openly and still feel that it's "just a story" to be compared with Star Wars or a Disney movie?

If so, I'm sorry to hear that, but "whoso desireth, let him turn aside." That's your call.
Disney movies are entertaining stories containing moral guidelines.

PropagandaClock

The difference inbetween say Jediism and Islam is that whereas Islam believes in alot of things easily dismissed as folklore and mythos, everyone knows Jediism is just the fiction written by a movie writer.

hahahahahahawat

I actually respect people who have changed their religions more, because they came to their conclusions independently and weren't just conditioned from birth to believe what they do.

So people who have stayed with their religion because they independently thought it to be true don't count? That's just stupid.

"- Quran                          contains orders for Muslims, how they should live their                          lives. Not all aspects of life are covered, an example                          being masterbation, or using your friends login information                          to access confidential information on company computers."
