Dude... alright, I was taking a lunch break at Golden Corral... and I saw what I thought were onion rings... imagine my surprise when I bite into it and it is rubbery and white and tastes like some kind of fish but it is good...

Quite an odd piece to eat but it's not bad...

Anybody else have those odd seafood cravings or experiences?

Solenoidclock

Well, there was the time that I learned that white human flesh tastes much better than black human flesh.

Imagine one of those moist, pink, turkey drumsticks that you can get at some carnivals, but textured like a lamb. That's white people. Black people are salty and the texture is chewier, I don't think their body chemistry allows them to denature well during cooking.

I don't recommend eating carnivores, or hanging out with Mayans. It's good to know though. I'll just stick to tasting since I don't think the body can break down humans very well.

I'd eat out a vegetarian or a vegan in a heartbeat.

Not An Alt Clock

Get the calamari at Olive Garden. Pure deliciousness.
Do not be afraid. All will be revealed.

Solenoidclock

I'm not sure why, but calamari at any Italian restaurant tends to be good.

I've had squid, but not actual calamari. The tentacles are bad, the rest is good.

Solenoidclock

I had whole baby octopus at a Chinese buffet. It makes me sad to see them dead but I still ate them. The mastication was unique, initially it was like a wad of big league chew.

So was it good? I mean, of course eating baby octopi is bad... but still, worth it?

That wouldn't be a lot, would it? Last time I checked, baby octopi are quite small.

WiiClock

i wouldn't trust calimari at golden corral. it's good from other places though. when i tried it for the first time when i was younger i thought it was amazing. my dad told me what i was eating and i GOT SCARED I WAS LIKE YO ARE YOU SERIOOUS
HELLO EVERYONE.

Munglai

I am a big fan of squid and octopus. I ate a whole big roughly sliced up octopus in Greece and it was awesome.

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

I once had these weird japanese octopus balls. Some sort of batter and a tentacle in the middle. Surprisingly good, very nice texture to the whole thing.

Loki Clock

Calimari's fucking delicious. It can make you sick if not done right, though. I don't know if that's because of the grease or the squid. Probably not vomit-inducing unless you have a weak stomach. But I wouldn't eat it now, knowing that they're pretty much sentient.

heineken

This is actually exactly the way I got to experience calamari for the first time. I was kind of unpleasantly surprised, because I was expecting a sweet, crunchy something and I received a rubbery, tasteless something.

I'd try it again if it wasn't deep fried this time.
You should watch this movie.

This movie is good.

Pillz

Yeah... calimari is good, I'll have to see if I can try somewhere else, I like exotic foods... they're a bit tough on the digestion, but the feeling of breaking the rut is always worth it.

You ever notice on food network they always make stuff that's fried or something else bad for you?

Example: Paula Dean, Guy Fieri (no offense to either)

I saw my sister watching those shows and I'm confused... aren't they supposed to be healthy on the food network? I mean, I see a lot more bad food than good food. (cholesterol and calorie wise, not idea or taste wise)

PS- I am currently ingesting white castle... better square burgers than wendy's. Though wendy's has awesome chili.

Kalamari is by definition deep-fried squid.

By what definition? I thought Calamari was just the Italian word for squid.

Nevertheless, delicious stuff, although if you are finding it too rubbery/chewy you are buying it from the wrong place.

patriotclock

Calamari is phenomenal. I love being Italian.

Also fyi, Calamari doesn't have to be deep fried. Good try though.

There's Calamari, the deep fried squid dish, and it's namesake, the Italian word for squid. Obviously in general it could mean either one, but this thread is about the former, as evidenced by Pillz mistaking it for onion rings.

Calamari doesn't have to be fried to be calamari. This thread is about calamari, not just fried calamari as specified by the thread title.
