nobody cares about libertarians. They're hardly even people.
Quote from: MafiaMettaurWhat the hell is with that shit you posted? You know what, I'm joining the Locks, just to stop stuff like you!
Quote from: polyhedronclockYou're a fucking clock, what else do you have?
To be fair, you don't have anything. Clocks are just machines that tick.

Quote from: Thor;1678310nobody cares about libertarians. They're hardly even people.
Well now a Norse god disagreed with me. I'm fucked. The sad part is I agreed with your statement on Obama. He hasn"t done shit, except, you know, spending more money than any president in U.S. history

Quote from: Thor;1678297The real reason they're giving him it is because the thought of a liberal leader pushing socialism in america is like a wet dream for them ultra left wing types in Europe

Hey Glenn Beck, when did you sign up on the CC?

No but seriously, conservative Americans need to chill the fuck out about Obama "spreading socialism."

Slurpee

Quote from: Mr. Super Awesome Man;1678307wait, Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzchak Rabin got it too for creating 'peace' in the middle east... so~...hmph : /
in defense of selecting arafat:

in 1993, the palestine liberation organization under arafat renounced terrorist activity and professed the belief that all parties in the middle eastern conflict (notably including israel) had the right to peace and security. (look up the oslo accords.)
basically this was a huge deal.

arafat and those two jews received the prize because were in the middle of one of many periods where they were apparently very close to reaching a diplomatic agreement for peace, and they had in the past year done a lot building toward that goal.

from the 1994 presentation speech:
QuoteThe intention has been, not to judge or to hand out certificates of good conduct, but simply to reward practical work for peace, in accordance with Nobel's own guidelines.
...
Hatred and violence breed hatred and violence. The Middle East was deep in that vicious circle; more and more minds seemed possessed by it. But, as we see, there are some who are strong enough to break out, who manage to stop to think, who turn around and go back on their tracks in search of a basis for peaceful co-existence. Perhaps they are the most deserving of respect and admiration. Were we not taught that such homecomings should be the cause of the greatest rejoicing?
...
The situation is still full of tension, marked by violence, killings, and insecurity, and stability is still far to seek. Nevertheless, our laureates have not only shown that a road to reconciliation can be found, but also very bravely taken several steps down that road. It is in admiration of that effort, and in the hope that the process they have started will continue, that they are today being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

nobel said the prize was to be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses"

so it's not like arafat didn't fit the bill.

people flip their shit because sometimes the prize is awarded to someone who spent a lifetime dedicated to striving for peace, like Martin Luther King, or who helped bring about the end of an important conflict, like Nelson Mandela or Teddy Roosevelt, but then sometimes they end up giving it to Kissinger for pulling out of 'nam and "instilling peace", when in reality the lack of stability there ended up contributing in part to the cambodian fucking civil goddamned war, or, yeah, obviously Arafat, who didn't exactly make good on expectations, or, this one time, to Al Gore, for what I believe was cited as `~;for some reason <3;~`
but in the loose interpretation of Nobel's written request that's developed since the prize's inception, they all sort of fit.

... no comment on obama.

except, you know.
vroom on a yamaha, chromed out 11 hunned, what we doin? getting money, what we doin? getting money, what they doin? hatin on us, but they never cross, cash money still a company, and bitch I'm the boss.

Quote from: Thor;1678297Why would they give OBAMA a nobel peace prize? He hasn't DONE anything. He's just SAID he'd do stuff. And he probably won't do most of it.
Pretty much this

Also he's getting it because he's black

That's also why Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan got it, right.

Poltergeist

Quote from: CadillacClock;1678323I actually wrote out a list of some of his more notable actions but in order to keep this from turning into a Plato's Playground thread:

He stopped Sarah Palin from getting into the White House and gaining actual world power.

I love you intently

Poltergeist

Quote from: Freedom Master;1678338that means all your political opinions are based on buzz words

Oh phew I was starting to worry this wasn't going to turn into a shit-flinging thread

Quote from: X-23;1678321That's also why Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan got it, right.
I laugh about every black man named "Kofi".
Quote from: CadillacClock;1678323He stopped Sarah Palin from getting into the White House and gaining actual world power. John McCain too.
With that he should better get three.

SilverCherryClock

I unironically think Yasser Arafat fully deserved the Nobel peace prize

RabidClock

Well fuck, I thought I had a shot at it this year :(

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

Quote from: CadillacClock;1678323He stopped Sarah Palin from getting into the White House and gaining actual world power.

This alone deserves a nobel prize.

Quote from: Slurpee;1678292get the fuck back here and tell me the terrible secret of textbook god damnit

Quote from: The Batman;1678282Wow. Awesome! But I'm not sure if it's going to be worth the BS I'm going to have to hear about it for the next several months/years.

It never is.
People on the right are already using it to attack Obama even though it was the decision of a room of dudes in Sweden.

Quote from: X-23;1678303Im not a leftie, im a right-wing conservative liberal. Huge difference, this is exactly why your 2 party system sucks.

Political parties are annoying, so I'm fine with keeping it down to two and a handful nobody cares about.

Quote from: Munglai;1678319I think one thing we can agree on is that Obama is a pretty cool guy

Yeah I'm pretty much just going with this.

PropagandaClock

If anyone really wants to dispute and critizise this award for Obama I'd wish they'd look upon themselves and ask if they posses equall or more analytic power than the five man comittee whose sole job it is to scour the earth for the human who has done the most for humanity in recent history.
One can disagree with the choice, but beyond that I just think it's silly to argue against it.

Quote from: X-23;1678370What, i don't even know who that is. That was a horrible secret, i should ban you all for making me track down all her IP's and stuff.
FloundermanClock wasn't around when Clock of the Month was a municipal institution so he's lying.

But I must say I am suprised so few knew her true identity, this makes it all the sweeter. However, should we really spoil her legacy with the truth?
