So I've been saving up for a PS3 for a couple weeks and I'll have the final dollars tomorrow.  I'm debating whether I should save money and go with the 40gb or go the extra ways with the 80gb.  Now I don't see an extra 2 USB slots being necessary for me and the backwards compatibility is not an issue because I have my PS2 if I really want to play those games again.  Also, DLC is not my biggest concern, I don't like spending the money on it and fuck demos.  I just play a lot of games and am wondering if you feel that the 40gb is enough space for savegames and other crap that I do in them.  Are there any other advantages (besides the SACD shit) that I'm not taking into account or do I basically have it?  What would you PS3 owners recommend for me?

It is really, really easy to buy a new HD and install it in the PS3, and I don't believe it breaks the warranty. If I am correct, then you could buy the 40, get a cheap 80 or 120GB drive, and just swap them out. That is an option you could explore.

That's what I was thinking about as well.  I know I have a spare hard drive laying around somewhere.  I know the 360 works with externals, is it the same for the PS3 or are Sony jews?

I believe Sony are, as you put it, Jews. I would have to check on that, but I think I remember Ron trying an external and it not working out.

Don't ps3 save files end up being 5 gigs or more sometimes? I swear I remember RE5 being at least 8.

Before you get it i realllly suggest you look at the available games first.  If you prefer God of War, Infamous and euhm.. im sure there are some other ps exclusives out there..  or if you prefer the xbox's: mass effect, fable, halo, gears of war, crackdown, bioshock etc..    I'm not trying to be a fanboy here buttttttt i do think xbox has a better selection of games.

Bioshock is for PS3 as well bro

Zordon

It would be cheaper to get a 120GB or a 250GB PS3 anyway besides almost every game is installed to the HDD now so you would suck up space quick I have a 250 and 6 games and with all 6 games installed I only have 197GB left I mean naturally you are gonna lose space due to  the OS. A lot of extras are fre believe it or not and if you get a game like Dante's Inferno or Assassins Creed 2 you need the space for the extra levels they let you download. Also Sony had a distributor only recall cause the 80GB were failing so it is best not to get the Fat PS3 at all.

Xbox has the same damn selection as my PC and Halo is shit now so that isn't really a plus at all

I already own a 360 and I love it (in fact, I still plan to buy most multi-platformed games for it because the controller doesn't have a prehistoric button layout).  I'm getting the PS3 for its exclusives and because the price has dropped significantly.  Plus a couple of my friends own them and refuse to get 360's and they either moved or are moving and we can play games together.  One of my friends is buying me CoD:MW2 for it even though I already have it for the 360.

Resistance series, Killzone 2, InFamous, God of War series, Uncharted series, Gran Turismo series, Ninja Gaiden Sigma series, Demon's Souls, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Little Big Planet, WipEout HD, etc... PS3 has plenty of great exclusives.

Also, yeah, putting in a hard drive is easy, at least on the new model of ps3 which is the one I got. Mine came with a 120 gig, I haven't gotten all the games I want off of PSN yet nor have I gotten all the Disk based games I want yet and I only have 50 GB left, so yeah, 40 gigs doesn't cut it. I'd say get the 120 gb small model, it's quite nice. This one By the time you'd need more space you'll probably have the money for a bigger hard drive.

There's a bunch of types of controllers for the pc. I have two 360 controllers for my pc.

Also, I have a gaming notebook, so I can indeed play from a couch. On top of that, it's not hard to hook modern pcs up to modern TV's, and there are wireless mice and keyboards aplenty.

So uh yeah about that ps3, I say go with the 120 or 250 gig ones but be sure to go with the slim model.

I advice you to save money and get the better version.

DLC and demo's might seem kind of dumb now, but a lot of extra's are free and there's actually some really good stuff on there.
