Making this thread a bit late, but whatever.

The Antlers album Hospice is incredible and you should go buy it. Probably the saddest album I've ever heard (the entire thing is a concept album about a nurse falling in love with a terminal bone cancer patient, which is kind of silly, but fucking affecting). Not to mention it's musically brilliant. Lots of people say it reminds them of Arcade Fire, but I think it's pretty fresh sounding. For some reason I feel like if you like Neutral Milk Hotel you'll like this, though musically they're not that similar despite great horn parts. In any case, go buy it you fucks. I'll say without shame it makes me cry pretty much every time I listen to it.

Had a new dream, it was more like a nightmare.
You were just a little kid, and they cut your hair,
then they stuck you in machines, you came so close to dying.
They should have listened, they thought that you were lying.
Daddy was an asshole, he fucked you up,
built the gears in your head, now he greases them up,
and no one paid attention when you just stopped eating.
Eighty-seven pounds, and this all bears repeating.

I just saw them live, they opened for Editors.

Holy fuck.

The beginning of that song reminds me of the jangly acoustic guitar music I keep hearing in commercials for like, everything.

That's because Apple showed corporate America that indie pop is a cash cow when played in the background of a commercial and now Feist and Grizzly Bear and Phoenix are household names.

Thankfully, Antlers is too depressing to ever be in a commercial.

is this the phoenix that were in darlin' with daft punk or is this another phoenix
Quote from: FLOUNDERINYOBUTT;1837615I think Kodiak is the only person on  this entire website who dislikes Slurpee. I still dont understand how  thats possible. He\'s so loveable and funny. Every guy wants to be his  friend and every girl wants to date him. Understandably Slurpee is not a  very happy person.

I've been debating with myself whether to buy Hospice or not.

SilverCherryClock

Indeed.

Definitely do so. Best album of '09, one of my tops for the decade.

Interesting... Any reason you don't like Two? I mean I just think it's fabulous, but pretty much every song has something great to it. Epilogue is also particularly incredible in my book.

SilverCherryClock

all the other songs are subdued and really pretty (atrophy, which owns) or really huge and bombastic (sylvia) and then two is kinda this middling little indie pop ditty and its not as good?

Hey Eff Yoo we have really similar musical tastes. I really really love the Antlers, Hospice was one of my favorite 09 albums. I think my favorite song on the album was probably Wake.

Also their first album In the Attic of the Universe is great

That song is secretly prolly about rape or something.

Glad to hear you dig it so much. I feel like it got the short end of the stick critically in some places, but everyone I've played it for seems to love it.
