A little time ago DoubleFine announced that they were going to change of strategy by working on four different games instead of just one at a time in order to compensate from the terrible sales of their first two games (Psychonauts, Brutal Legend)

Now the first project got revealed today, and it's called CostumeQuest. Which will be directed by Tasha Harris, an ex-employee from Pixar and Senior Animator in DoubleFine. (I like her comics)

To turn on the spark of awesomeness, I'll put it this way: SNES-style RPG set in Halloween, and the costumes the kids wear turn to badass mode up to 11 in battles.

QuoteCostume Quest feels quirky from the start. The campaign begins when the hero and little sister embark on a night of Trick'r'Treating. Lil' sis, dressed as a candy cane, comes across a monster with a sweet tooth, and things go south from there. The hero battles monsters (that appear to be summoned by his imagination) in a quest to save his sister -- and be home before curfew.

Not to say sweet-toothed monsters are Costume Quest's only obstacles. As they say, hell is other children. Completing the quest also requires befriending and outsmarting other kids.

One quest sees the hero left off the guest list to an exclusive "Patriotic Party." The game's isometric view (think SNES-era games like Earthbound and The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past with a 3D facelift) reveals the party is being held in a suburban backyard; its trees festooned with ribbons and American flags.

This is a costume party with a simple entrance requirement -- a proper patriotic costume -- initiating a quest to find the necessary trappings of a makeshift Lady Liberty. Perhaps a broom for a bristly torch, or bed linens as impromptu toga. Completing these mini-quests generally scores some candy or info on little sister's whereabouts, and turns off the light on the front porch (an "on" light inversely represents an open quest).

Fuck me if this isn't a cool idea.

As far it seems, it will be released for XBLA and PSN.

Everything connected to Doublefine in the past has been phan-dabby-dabulous and i expect this too shall be awesome.

People are dumb and don't realize that DoubleFine puts out great, fun, and original games. I've brought up Psychonauts at work in the past to customers and they've always said, "Well that game doesn't look good." I'm looking forward to this.

SnakeClock

Costume Quest is a silly name, but the game looks fun.

Silly Putty Clock

I love this game concept. They'd better unlock its full potential.

Brutal Legend wasn't that bad. It is true that it would have been so much better if they kept it as just a hack 'n' slash.

Commander Shepard

people should have bought brutal legend and psychonauts. I think its good they are releasing it on xbla, cause from a financial standpoint, doublefine has a bad rep (games dont sell). its smart to make a smaller budget game for cheaper on a service where more experimental and new games show up (i.e. Limbo, Braid, Castle Crashers, etc.)
I\'m Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite forum on the Citadel

It seems like Costume Quest will be released in October 20th instead of Halloween! I wish this gets released for PC.
