IMO shotgun is still the best for a pyro. I don't see the use of flares, maybe the new one will be marginally more useful if it has decent dmg and radius.

The shotgun spread pisses me off - I never one-shot anyone with a crit. But flares? They make up half of my kills.

TF2 will remain the same as always. Opening it to be free will lure lots of new users that hadn't bothered to buy it yet and will spend some cash in hats and what not. I believe it was a brilliant step forward.
