So, my aunt told me she would buy me Flash Professional CS5.5. I'm rocking Flash 8 right now, should I upgrade? Are there any downgrades to it?

ooh look at me, i'm Vubawls and i've got an aunt with deep pockets oooh.

pop-tart

Flash 8 is great for the kind of stuff you do... straight animation. CS5 has a trickier interface to get used to... and you probably won't use half the bells and whistles...

Though the bone tool is bad ass.

Heh. Bone. Tool.

Wanna switch aunts ?

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

Complete waste of money. You're fine with flash 8. The only noteworthy thing they added since flash 8 was the bone tool.

It also has a whole bunch more, more professional stuff, like the graph editor, which you should really learn if you ever want to do 3D animation ever in your life, AS3 and has a lot of tools widely used in the Industry which you should really learn if you ever want to become successful.

Oh and they got rid of the ability to export in a whole bunch of vector formats and the excuse is now that you can export to adobe's shitty propriety format you don't need any others!!!! Fuck them seriously, that fucked me over in Maya because I couldn't export properly anymore.

RobClock

Just keep Flash 8.

...oh right, that they have everyone by the short hairs because there isn't a strong competitor in their respective category.

Fortunately I think there's a few up and coming competitors like Unity and Toonboom and the like, but it'll be a long while before anyone can really challenge Flash.
