I am working on a project for work to impress the big wigs... and I can't figure something out.

We want to create a kiosk with various links to stuff we sell, etc...

One cool feature would be if we could add a customer feedback feature... an input text field that when you clicked a 'submit' button, recorded their comments in a separate file to be read by the manager. This would be done on the same PC.. not online.. so it could be recorded in a local file.

I have read all I could find on the subject and can't seem to figure out how the data would be saved and retrieved... :/

Is it doable? I'm not getting paid for this but I'd be willing to throw a few bucks in the direction of someone who can teach me or even throw the FLA together. I'm trying to get promoted and this would dazzle the district manager..

Well I mean it depends on how youre going to do it. You could set up a server as a repository for all that data and just have your bosses computer pull from that server every so often so he has an updated set up. Considering the fact youre going about it that way that'd be the easiest way. You'd just have to get someone to write whatever youre going to use that uploads to said server.
We\'ll be back shortly.

It can't be set up just to write to a file on the same PC, same directory?

AbbaZabaClock

Yeah of course. I just figured you wanted to have the data sent to your bosses. You could just retrieve it that way.

Keeping it simple as possible. Maybe down the road if it's something they want to expand, we can go big.

AbbaZabaClock

From a coding perspective though. I can only help you in theory not practice. So thats all I got lol.

You could save them to text files, or save it all as a LSO and make a backdoor in the Flash (like pushing / or something) to bring it up. Less impressive, but easier to do. CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY and I'll make you a little demo

pop-tart

Funny thing is, my first instinct was to PM you, Cat.. but I was like "nah, don't wanna bother the man.."

Whichever of the two is easiest! Thanks man!

Probably TOO quick and shitty, but I used the LSO method. TO DISPLAY COMMENTS THUS FAR: type the Konami code. It's the most intuitive way to do something, after all.

Probably should've made something to wipe the comments...

for (j = 0; j < _root.lso.data.popstCount; j++){
 _root.lso.data["popst" + j] = null;
}

would do it, speaking of inefficiency.

edit: OH GOD I FORGOT THE SCROLLBAR but that's the barebonezÃ,®, you can probably get the rest

editedit: changed the thing to accommodate pressing enter

oh god help I'm too stupid to even edit posts and I'm giving scripts out

TRIPLE POST YAY and oh shit, didn't see this was for a promotion. There's a way to get it to save to a file, but the only way to do it in AS2 involves PHP.. which would involve starting up a little Apache server. (It's seriously just downloading one thing and clicking a button nowadays, but that still might be a little much to do to a work computer...)

AS3, though! That probably has a way to do it. That I can't figure out for you because I have Flash 8. So.. I guess wait for someone else to come along and save the day.

pop-tart

My promotion is not contingent upon getting this to work. It's for brownie points, lol..

Thanks man. When I'm back at my computer, I will check out.
