I forgot how flash flash can be.

edit: okay, back on track. flash kept replacing by background incidental with a sound that no longer exists. problem was rectified by transferring everything to a new document. when in doubt~

"j" is the hot key for "object drawing", but I'm not sure that's what you're having trouble with

control-b to break up groups

The object drawing toggle (in addition to the shortcut ZL mentioned) is a button above the paintbrush size thingie. Did ya touch it?
