I think MrBTongue has made some of the best game theory videos available

Double Fine Adventure is the best documentary about the creative process I've ever seen

I watch Bootleg Zones when there are new videos.

I'm not subscribed to anything, but does anybody else always get terrible recommendations? I mean you watch one video of a guy with a beard spouting dumb opinions and now Youtube thinks I'm some crackpot nazi. Recommended for you: How chemtrails are turning you cuck & The Muslim problem (ASMR edition). These are my experiences with Youtube.

Slurpee

my channel subs are mostly nerds that do critical examinations on popular culture, because, I'm Slurpee.

Every Frame a Painting focuses on film composition, and is some must see shit if you enjoy RedLetterMedia's scholarly, film-making-based criticism. The ones about Michael Bay and Jackie Chan are choice.

Brows Held High covers artsy movies in an informative and accessible way. Seriously you will never believe how much this dude can get you to care about Derek Jarman's Blue.

Lindsay Ellis covers a variety of pop culture stuff, but hits stride when talking about something she's really interested in. I recommend her video essays on Hercules and Phantom of the Opera, the Loose Canon series in general, and also her comparison between Independence Day and War of the Worlds.

Rap Critic and Todd in the Shadows review popular music. I don't know anything about music but they're entertaining and cutting and they avoid the impenetrable (odious) Pitchfork Media approach of doing the "sounds like" comparison on every fucking song to some obscure fucking forgotten subgenre from 25 fucking years ago in a textual medium seriously fuck Pitchfork all day. BARRRRF.

Satchell Drakes, Errant Signal, and Game Maker's Toolkit talk video games
Errant Signal ruminates on the abstract theoretical and practical applications of different aspects of game design and how players interact with them. He can misfire from time to time, particularly when he can't quite piece together a strong central thesis and ends up rambling, but it's an admirable attempt at academic criticism for a fledgling medium that's wholly deserving of it. Satchbag falls under the same umbrella, and has a very sleek, gently enthusiastic approach, with ideas that are very well developed and clearly communicated. He's like an erudite acquaintance inviting you to join him in a fireside chat, about Sonic & Knuckles. Game Maker's Toolkit is similar to those two, but doesn't really traffic in big, abstract ideas- it's mostly case studies about what works or doesn't work for him about particular games, and he seems to stumble when it comes to extrapolation, but for game talk you could do a lot worse.

Brad Jones reviews exploitation and horror movies and he's the best and I love him. It's more jokey than the rest of these, but he's a funny motherfucker and has a genuine and infectious love of "low" cinema

Outliers from this pattern are funnymen Phelous, Jonch Ron, Rocco from Mega 64, The Best Friends Zaibatsu, and somebody called "scrotedog99" who I have no idea how I ended up subscribed to him but is hilarious and rules
