anyway california's going to the democrats, and the presidential election operates on the electoral college, so my vote in the general election actually doesn't matter, which is why, as ever, I'm voting for the most popular third party candidate*, because once they get 5% of the vote, they get access to FEC funding, and once they get 15%, they get into the presidential debate, and other than local and state offices and propositions, there is nothing more important in our democratic elections than ending the goddamn two-party system. and THAT'S why voting matters and THAT'S why carlin can suck it for making it cool to think otherwise.

i was just feeling bemusedly apocalyptic at that moment because i had a project due tonight, my unemployment has expired, i can't find a job, i hadn't talked to any of my friends for days leading up to my birthday (and have serious and generally unfounded anxiety about driving people away), and there was potentially serious social unrest if trump supporters didn't accept the legitimacy of the election results

and then the project got an extension, my family gave me a windfall of cash, i got a call for an interview, a bunch of my friends wished me a happy birthday, and trump won, so no worries about all of that i guess
