Hype as fuck, do not get me wrong, but i am troubled by how much story they seem keen on cramming into this game? Doom 4 was fantastic and I enjoyed all the fluff text in the menu codex, but this is Doom. Keep it simple.

also 'raze hell' is fine as a tag line, but 'Times change, DOOM is ETERNAL' was way better

I'm hoping the story stuff doesn't interfere too much with the overall gameplay. Hopefully bare minimum cut scenes. I felt Doom 2016 did it right, hopefully, if they're gonna do it, it's similar to that.

that really is my worry. Doom 4 is a fantastic game, but it had like maybe three half life 2 esque cutscenes that brought the game to a hault in the middle of the otherwise visceral combat and freedom of mobility. Particularly the one where you're stuck in a little room while the robot talks to you on a fucking projector really bugged me. That was where 4 faltered most significantly, and even then, its only a minor quibble. But we're getting a full on story cinematic trailer here- im hoping they didnt take the wrong message from the strong positive reception of the single player over the multiplayer.

They had put some serious stock into the multiplayer portion of the game, having spent several months producing public betas- which most everyone hated. And then people see the single player, and it sells on the strength of that alone, the reason being that the game delivered everything you wanted versus a more corporate read of singleplayer = good, put more development focus on that and inadvertently change the fundamentals of the what makes it so appealing. 'We need our own call of duty'


I am likely paranoid, but i've been burned here before. Wolfenstein's gone to dogshit, Shadow Warrior 2 was a massive dud, did Quake Champions even launch? I hold stock in the name 'id Software' but bethesda has been a trainwreck lately.

Trust in Hugo Rob. Trust in Hugo. The dude seems to have a good handle on what doom is/should be.

Doom 4 reminded me a lot of Metroid Prime, where the environment told the story and it was more so up to the player to put pieces together to really understand what's going on. To me, that's the best kind of story telling for this medium. A few codex/journal entries that are entirely optional never hurt, but they're not fun if they're not compelling. I'd imagine we'll get more of that than anything else.

Also Samuel Hayden was rad. I'm totally fine with him locking me in a room and ear raping me with that silk red velvety voice.
