We're living in the new normal... unless people start demanding that governments get off their asses and do some real work.

It's been almost twenty years since 9/11 and we're still taking off our shoes and surrendering our ice tea before getting near a plane. Mind you these protections are based a lot more on speculative scenarios than empirical evidence. It is the same with coronavirus..

Time to put politics aside. We don't all need to be locked in like hamsters, nor should we reopen the world like normal because we've grown annoyed with inconveniences. There's something in the middle.

If it is seniors and those with underlying health conditions who are at risk, realign our defensive efforts so they target those groups. Kids missing karate class because their aunt has liver disease is proving to be overkill at this point.

I'm starting to sound like one of those nuts. I'll shut up.

I work in grocery store. Every fucking morning, I see the same hundred seniors coming into the store, shopping for shit they don't need.

I see them leaving the Home Depot and the dollar store we share a lot with. Too fucking stupid to realize that they are the ones prolonging this.

That the healthy masses are sacrificing to protect them, and they can't even adhere to the simplest of restrictions.

We should start the transition back to "normal" for those health officials have determined are at nearly zero risk. Like kids.

If the thought is "if we reopen the schools, a child could bring the virus home to their elderly grandparent," guess what? It is those grandparents' responsibility to keep themselves' isolated from the child.

But we can't do that because the old people won't comply.

I do like old people stories. There's this one Korean vet dude that comes in that tells us about all the pussy he has gotten.

And most old people I encounter in the AM are very nice. "Thank you for doing this, young man!"

BUT they are under-informed and obstinate. They barely understand technology so they have no clue how social media puts them in bubbles and only shows them things that support their skewed opinions on things.

Here's an old people story. There's an older woman named Bonnie who works with me who believes Joe Biden is using COVID to rig this election. She believes he will choose Michelle Obama as his running mate. That he will then step down and let Michelle be president, so Barrack Obama can run the country from behind the scenes.

just as a matter of pure probability, the bullet isn't going to come down on your own head

but there are a lot of bullets, and they will come down
and the more that hit, the more that fire
and they're veering toward doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and their families
and they're more likely to hit a vital organ if they hit the elderly, people with a history of pulmonary illnesses, people with chronic illnesses, people working long hours and multiple jobs, poor people, men for some reason, or black people for some reason

the more bullets that fire, the more that are going to hit, and if enough of them hit at the same time, "go to the hospital and probably survive" gets taken off the table. the infrastructure just isn't there to deal with that much of the population getting sick at once. doctors will have to start making decisions about what patients are worth trying to save
all this is just trying to stop that from happening


the closest hing we have to a "make the world go again" button that's not also offering the lives of strangers to moloch, is a comprehensive, aggressive policy of testing, tracing, and containment

New normal for me seems to be working two weeks straight, going home for two weeks, and then working for two weeks straight. And the two weeks on after about 12 days gets really sloppy.
