@vcrclock olskoo will hear of this!!!!

it's all supposed to be utf8 now, I did my part. ask smf why they thought making utf8 an optional post-install language pack, not the default encoding, was a good idea

      what's the deal with uhhh

      what's the deal with

      uhhh

look, I dunno, please tell me I'm not just cherry picking and confirmation biasing here, but why is it that in the old days, goofy illustrated hip hop album covers were like

      and now they're fucking like

I mean obviously I don't listen to any of the three artists on the bottom, which is probably fine with them, but like

even if your name is 'DaBaby,' even if you collaborated with Lil Baby to put out a song called 'Baby', what the fuck is cool about riffing on fucking Boss Baby? it's like admitting you paid full price to see a shitty movie and then went back and saw it again because you liked it. yeah maybe rappers acting like they're Scarface is old hat but god damn get some taste

all I got is that the top row's just, like, old fashioned "exaggerate features" caricature of the artists. except biz, he's pretty realistic. but the bottom row isn't that kind of caricature, not even 6ix9ine. it's like the opposite, the rapper is now a Funko Pop figurine (I also hate these) and... what? is it like they're attempting to transform into something cute for the ladies? if you're not about cute shit, what does (the 2020 equivalent of) the album cover lying on your passenger seat signify? does it somehow subvert the passe "get rich or die tryin" look of a past hip hop culture?

you know what maybe I am cherry picking. i'm looking at some juice WRLD (another artist I don't listen to) album covers, and maybe it watches a little more anime than rap did before soulja boy, but that's fine, it's not "boss baby" level concerning. it's fine. I may not be able to envision myself saying a sentence like "yeah I listen to a boogie wit da hoodie" but his album covers aren't threatening my fragile masculinity either.

sorry guys I just encountered the dababy mixtape cover on the internet somewhere and got thrown into a panic

      • What's up with... uhhh... no, but seriously what's up with people who spreak through a sort of clenched jaw (or "tight mouth")? Anyone notice this? It's mostly women in their twenties, I've found. Not 1950s gangsters see. Maybe it's a medical thing, like they snagged their elbow on a rusty nail, but it sounds kind of affected. Is this a thing? If so, why? It sounds kinda gross, like tonsillitis.

See also: slow talkers. Allssoo... mmosstlyyy... wooomennn... whhooo... taaalkk... liiikeee... tthiisss... (I'm not talking question inflection, it has more of a lobotomy quality to it, very flat.) Like their mouths are waiting for their brains to catch up. Go voice a turtle in a cartoon you dingbat. I had one on the phone today and she asked me if I could speak more slowly. Are you recruiting? She got kind of snippy with me and when I asked her if she was on a PC or on her phone she fired crawled? leaked? oozed? this zinger at me: "Well, I'm at home so I guess I would be using my computer, no?" Obviously, because phones automatically become unusable the moment you cross the threshold right. Or do you have to hand over your phone to the orderly when you return to the mental health ward? Also, I know where you are.

Then there was the cat lady with a twenty second Porky Pig stutter before every sentence, but she was very sweet and brave to even pick up the phone, so I'll cut anyone who says anything. And thus concludes this (mildly misogynistic) recap of the absolute highlights of my day.

      • What are some nice ways to tell a co-worker to fuck off? Like when the resident office moron overhears a discussion about some issue and comes over to give his 2 cents. Except it's more like 22222 cents. In terms of length, not in terms of value. Just very poor "advice" or "solutions". I just try to zone out and go "Yeah..."  "Yeah..." "Yeah I get it, yeah..." occasionally, but that doesn't really work. Something like "When I need your advice, I'll give you the special signal, which is me being sectioned under the fucking Mental Health Act."

In the train I overheard a slow talker on the phone the other day and she was like "Mmaakkeee... sssuurreee... ttooo... gggeettt... tthhhee... bbbaaarr...bbbee...ccuee... oouutttt... aaandd... rreeaaadyy..." If it had been me on the other end of that call she would've come home to my corpse with my charred head wedged between the grill and the lid of a red hot barbecue.

I associate lockjaw talking with a particular unisex "affluent asshole" stereotype. Lumbergh from Office Space is the closest mass media example I can currently recall, but this is what I mean. I don't know if people get that way because they're trying to sound that way, or if it's akin to an accent.
