i wonder if that's a reference to the comic, or if the comic is a reference to it. it really was a far-reaching image. I've never talked about Sudo without it coming up. imagine being the maintainer for Sudo

the sudo website also goes into a lot of detail over hacking tivos, and I can't help but wonder if it wasn't just a fuck you over the incident that lead to GPLv3

PhantomCatClock

ok yeah the logo was a shield with the # prompt hmm

Slurpee

it's weird that the classic version of team fortress was always called "team fortress classic" and does not appear to have ever just been called "team fortress"

it was based on a mod called "team fortress" but it wasn't really the "classic" version of that, it was a brand new iteration on the concept ported to another engine

it's like naming your kid "phillip's dad" just trusting that one day they shall grow up and have a child of their own named phillip

I thought Chollo Flounderman DS was blatant copyright infringement but look at this filth!

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

I remember reading some old post where the guy changed ONE sentence of a wikipedia page for clarity or something minor and not only did the author revert their edits, but revert every edit he made from that point on as soon as he made them. the guy gets bored and doesn't log back into his account for years, but when he does the very first edit he makes is reverted within a few minutes by that same author.

wikipedia is the last bastion of people who still argue about mac v windows and have a tab style preference beyond "what's already in the project"

Dear Slurpee,

I hope this forum post finds you well. Some time recently—between the last week to three years—I said something you applauded as a hilarious and witty comment, and as flattered as I was I needed to confess it was a long-respected joke that I had previously stolen from you! In a display of the greatest humility, you illustrated that searching for your origin post yielded no results. Only recently did I learn that one must search from the root forum to reach into the farthest pits of the website, however! I cannot recreate this search on account of no longer remembering the joke in question, however. I bare my plight to you and your superior memory.

All the best,
PhantomCat

P.S. Did you ever get that air fryer sorted out? Pesky devices, eh wot.

you know how like

people were worried about mummy curses

like there are these contained, well-sealed tombs out in the desert, and those tombs are little room-boxes buried under the sand with all kinds of goodies in them, but you'd better not open them because you'll get cursed? but it turns out the tombs were full of gold and lapis and yeah ok weird stuff happened to one group of archaeologists but entropy comes for us all and it was weird shit like james dean's car that wouldn't stop crashing, when really that's just bad luck bullshit

we're burying nuclear waste in underground tombs, and as much as it feels like NOW is IMPORTANT and COMPUTERS are COOL and DATA isn't GOING ANYWHERE, people are going to fucking forget about us. Not like, you and me—all of us. In two or three thousand years, who the fuck is going to remember anything that happened now

if society comes to an end, or changes so much that today seems like ignorant ancient animals by comparison, nobody's going to remember these  radiation tombs, even with the helpful and hopefully universal warnings on them. They're just going to be hieroglyphs. In fact, even if someone DID know ancient English or Icelandic letters, they'd only be more certain that the symbols blocking these tombs mean nothing and were likely from another civilization completely, because nothing else is like them.

Boy, these tombs sure are hard to break into. Gotta be something good in them.

Weird, everybody who went in has been cursed. They keep getting cancer and welts on their skin, maybe our medicine is still comprehensive enough to see their DNA is getting fucked up.

We're not disposing nuclear waste. We're making cursed mummy tombs for future archaeologists / treasure bandits.
