calling it

so like, the fantasy that some day the army or whatever will need GAMERS instead of SOLDIERS because they can control remote gundams or whatever

i bet that'll happen for like a week before it turns out that with training normal non-dorks are better at it anyway and so they keep it internal

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

gundams are all flash and posturing. what the military really wants is 7 foot tall flying autonomous boston dynamics drones but still with legs so they can kick you in the balls, and a dick that fires a variable microwave beam that can either near lobotomize you or simply shave a few points off your IQ. also to rape you with. future war and law enforcement is gonna be all about raping and lobotomizing civilians. more than usual.

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

a few guys still get to pilot the gundams for air shows though

miracle fruit

the ending of ozark was so wack i cannot believe this

RobClock

I've got two episodes left

RobClock

I finished the series, the ending was wholly inconclusive but I guess that was the point. Would have been better to just end it with season 3 tbh

thank you for guiding me to this private mind garden

the "fan art" section of Wile E. Coyote/Gallery was certainly fresh to my eyes

I also appreciate the writing style where things which are of particular subjective importance are recounted twice or more
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

Fun stuff in the Duke realm today, aside from playing the Duke 2001 build for three hours and finding the experience to be wholly impressive for what it is- with several levels actually containing enemy encounters, puzzles, and stage progression- Scott Miller released a statement in association with Apogee Software, an offshoot from the 3D Realms 2009 collapse, using the company's original name;

https://twitter.com/apogee_ent/status/1524118484195713024?s=21&t=bLLUQsGIllivq27Wq6nyaw

Scott Miller is the former CEO of Apogee/3D Realms proper, before said collapse, and sheds his fairly brief look back on DNF in relation to the leak.

He is not very kind to George Broussard. George was co exec at 3DR, a lead programmer and developer in many projects, specifically Duke Nukem 3D and (you guessed it) Duke Nukem Forever.

Georgie calls out Scott, saying he is a narcissist.

https://twitter.com/georgebsocial/status/1524122762679304194?s=21&t=bLLUQsGIllivq27Wq6nyaw

Claims he has many stories about Scott from the last fifty odd years

https://twitter.com/georgebsocial/status/1524125572728774658?s=21&t=bLLUQsGIllivq27Wq6nyaw

He implies he has much more to say

https://twitter.com/georgebsocial/status/1524127110176161794?s=21&t=bLLUQsGIllivq27Wq6nyaw

https://twitter.com/georgebsocial/status/1524153365269209088?s=21&t=bLLUQsGIllivq27Wq6nyaw

George locked the replies but I did get one in imploring him to tell his story

And then, finally, he throws randy under the bus

Tieball, a sport where the goal is to have as many points as the other team. When someone goes ahead and wins, who wins?

RobClock

PhantomCatClock

You know, I went into this trying to think up a sport that goes on forever by a less obvious infinite loop in the rules than "this game never ends" and figured the first avenue I'd explore was "well, sports already go on if there is a tie" but i like your version, if i misinterpret it a little bit. The player's team does not win. The player does.

New page so here's a video of the Duke Firever leak for those of whom can't be bothered to install it

k9

Looking at all this Duke Nukem Forever stuff has got me thinking of the idea of a "masterpiece".

From what I've gathered, Duke Nukem Forever got its tortured development from its director, George Broussard's inability to accept anything less than cutting edge perfection, which is why he threw away so much work all the time, and most criminally, through away an apparently 90% finished build of the awesome 2001 version (dated December 2002), just so he could have dynamic lighting like DOOM 3. If you think about it, just comparing end products, and nothing else, Duke Nukem Forever is worse than Duke Nukem 3D, purely because of Broussard's masterpiece idealism.

I think everyone here probably has one thing they'd love to make at some point, like a magnum opas (in my case I have two lol), but seems like alot of the time the pressure and unwillingness to accept anything less than their pure vision seems to kill alot of artists work. Another great example from video games is Bioshock, that game had a pretty smooth run in development, but whenever it came time to make a sequel, Levine got all important and made Infinite, with a development almost as tortured as Duke Nukem Forever. Probably one of the most famous examples is Brian Wilson's literal insanity trying to make the album SMiLE in 1967.

It's kinda sad that it seems like the more passionate you are about a project, the worse it'll seem to turn out lmao. I feel like maybe you have to meet a kind of middle-ground, maybe not 100% passionate, maybe not 50%. 75% would probably work haha

RobClock

Broussard's idea of a magnum opus was one (considerable) factor but also consider how the development team was approx 12 people trying to knock out a triple A game. The early 00s saw a massive paradigm shift in the PC games industry, the indie heart of the 90s transitioning to more corporate style with big teams.

k9

jesus I didn't know it was 12 people. I'd say Broussard was the main reason still though, because going by what we see in the 2001 leak, 3D Realms WAS capable of making something great and impressive, but Broussard's feature creep killed it in the end.
