In California, everything was California news and California things

in Texas, the rest of the world does not exist yeehaw

but here, it's like
actual news when shit goes down and someone is a New Englander

one of the dudes who worked on that NASA thing that touched a asteroid is a native Mainer, so the word Maine got thrown around a lot, but for the most part it really is like

not Maine, New England

"blah blah movie blah blah one of the actors is from VERMONT WOOOOOOOOOOHOO A NEW ENGLAND ACTOR" and like, that actor will come on for an interview

it's like I went from living in one state to living in six

Every time something is on the news, and I start thinking "why the fuck is this news", it invariably ends in "..INVENTED BY A NEW ENGLANDER!" or "and one of the people on that team is a MAINE NATIVE!!!!!" and they're just so happy that New England did something that it becomes news

this is the excited puppy corner of the US and it loves hearing its name
that's cute

RobClock

Speaking of Maine, I saw a team of people working on the power lines yesterday and they were from Maine and it made me think of our very own phantomcat

VCRClock

the "LOOK A NEW ENGLANDER" feels like a grasp in the same way that it's the "new england patriots" because it lets you sell merch to people who don't live in massachusetts

possibly also because of the sports-team thing, or maybe the kennedys or something i dunno, i have always felt like massachusetts is the Sailor Moon of new england, the other states have distinct personalities and some of them are more likable characters overall, but they don't got much pull without the Main Girl

if massachusetts sank:

maine would probably take over as main(e) girl. it's biggest, quirkiest, most coastline, and has ll bean
vermont would be like the "best friend" but if vermont ever met colorado they'd make out furiously and vermont would forget about new england in an instant
new hampshire is dale gribble
rhode island is chiyo-chan
connecticut would probably be trying to convince new york to annex it

hey I haven't posted on .net in a while :D

Do you guys ever like go to a library, like a PUBLIC library? I've been in some of the ones in universities but honestly they kinda suck it's just BEWKS. the libraries NI thing they do here is fucking awesome, it's been pissing rain all morning and I came into the library and they gave me a cup of tea and a little biscuit because it's so cold, shit rocks mang

i rlly like coming in here and theres so many of these places too, the only problem is I have to REWIRE my BRAIN to use the computers in here, I deleted this post like NINE FUCKING times while writing it because I am currently IN THE *LIBRARY

what r da libraries in ur area liek

*post provided by the ni libraries board

PhantomCatClock

this is the farthest I've been from japan in my life, including places i've only been to for ten minutes while traveling, and the package is already here

kinda looks like a bible

it comes with test paper and I tried the space pen on it, see if it'd rip the pages. it did not, but you can clearly read the ink through it. tried the semi-fountain pen on it next and uh

holy shit

i think i finally get it. writing in the comp notebook with the fountain pen, like, sure, the actual physical writing looks better, but it feels the same. this combo does not. i finally understand how people can be uppity nerds about writing now that i have both a good pen and good paper. unf. unf.

now to wait until january to use this since the whole thing is dated, ho hum.

i have never had a hot beverage at the local library

i think i went from 'i never use my library card' to 'once in a while' when i realized that if i wanted to read something like a recently published book-format comic from a reputable publisher, i wouldn't automatically have to buy it, because my local library might have it

which is, like........ why library was invented

i've also gone to librarie for rEsEaRcH like stuffy books and old newspapers and stuff, but libraries do all kinds of wild shit these days that i don't really know about

they also have kiosks where you self-checkout your own books without even talking to a librarian
and i think fines for late returns have gone out of vogue, weirdly enough, don't know how that works, but feel like library late fines didn't change with inflation at all and it's been something paltry like 10 cents a day since before home computers existed

I don't read alot so there's not typically alot of books I wanna read. I DID however ask one of the libraries if they had a copy of the unabomber manifesto because I rlly wanted to read it but they didn't but they DID look at me like I was a psychopath

the library in the "county town" is p big and they have this room where they have all the newspapers saved on little films and you can put them in a little machine and read them. I could never figure out how to work the machine but I rlly wanna read a particular newspaper from 1998. There's this chain of supermarkets in ireland called dunnes stores, and SOMETHING REALLY BAD happened in august 1998. The ulster herald wanted to pull all the ads from the paper that week out of respect, and they did. BUT dunnes stores wouldn't pull their ad, so the only ad in the entire paper is a full page dunnes stores ad. not a good look haha

I've used the self-checkout key osck before it's p handy but I always like talking to the librarian. And yea late fees aren't a thing anymoar. I have a few books that still need to go back, and in northern ireland at least, you can return the books to ANY library, so that fucks. I have a book I took out in 2011 and I really wanna hand it back in to see what they think lol

cool stuffs man  :duelin:

in honor of spookymonth,

have a song where the singer admits she's a werewolf in the first fifteen seconds

the part in Can You Feel the Love Tonight where he's like
"it's enough, for this RESTLESS waria, just to beeee with you"
and then
"it's enough, to make KINGS AND va-ga-bonds, beliiieve the verrrry best"
and then
"it's enough, for this WIDE-EYED WANderer, thaaat weeee g-o-o-o-t this faaaaar!"
(0:40)(1:34)(2:54)

has the same cadence as "hey now hey now, don't DREEEAM IT'S ov-er" in Don't Dream It's Over

(0:45)(1:34)(2:57)

I like the way Elton Johnathon fills out the line more, it feels like a more musically complete idea, especially the way he skirts around really belting it out and resists the temptation to hold on that last note until the third time around
and the lyrics of Don't Dream It's Over are worse. they're just worse. they feel like such a first song that some teenager wrote while thinking about a girl. like it's fine, he clearly did his best and tried really hard, but the impression of a complete lack of poetic nuance when he talks about "battles" is inescapable

anyway I just wanted to say that, I think "Waria" is probably Wario but a girl

Slurpee

the second half of the chorus on Don't Dream It's Over is "hey now hey now" again (which, yeah, they knew they had a hook there, it's the 80's, might as well grind it into a fine paste) and then it's like something something cum something cum cum something then "they won't win...?" then it sounds like he's gonna say something else but he just kinda trails off and looks at the camera like  sorry man I had maybe 30% of a song here and didn't really know what to do for the rest

PhantomCatClock

look i tried to be coy about it with the forum title but i really need someone else to watch Chinese Ghost Story 2 so i can talk about it with them

it DOES continue the story but the first minute is an uncomfortably fast recap of the first movie so please feel free to just jump in

it's midterms week so I can't promise I'll try, but I'll try to try

PhantomCatClock

not gonna lie it's pretty long but by the time you get to the first fight scene, you'll know what's up

Slurpee

fight scenes... soo da ne

Chinese Ghost Story 1 wasn't just A Ghost Story with Chinese people, then

PhantomCatClock

well as explained in the first minute of CHINESE GHOST STORY 2 at an uncomfortable speed, it is in fact a story about a Chinese ghost, but perhaps not how you think..! ㊙️
