I want to try to get some of my rl friends together to try Alice is Missing, and I was considering uh

okay, so, Alice is Missing is a tabletop role playing game played silently over text messages. you play as friends of a girl who went missing (a girl named, of course, Stacy) trying to figure out what happened to her, the game takes place in real time, everybody's got secrets and shit, and it's supposed to be really moving and cool
and part of the gimmick is you change all the players' names in your phones before the game starts for the sake of immersion (so it's more like you're actually talking to the characters on your phones).
but I was like... that sounds like kind of a hassle, maybe I could just buy some burners, like, how much could they possibly be? they're for drug dealers to throw out after literally one call. you could probably get a group at a discount. but also maybe it'd be cooler to have like a weird mix of different brands, kinda soft roleplay like it's 2007? :sherlock:

but it turns out they're like $20 at the low end so, no, I'm not gonna do that

argh it'd be really cool though
somebody just, give me infinite money already. for fucks sake.

always have these cabeça grande plans for setting up a special evening of game for my friends that I never end up actually carrying out

there's a ttrpg that uses a jenga set instead of dice, like, every time you take an action that involves any kind of risk, you have to take a jenga block out and put it on top, and if the tower falls you fail and probably die or something I don't remember the specifics
and I was like 30% of the way through setting up this whole ass custom scenario loosely based on Saw 2 (the one where a bunch of strangers wake up in a house with a slow-acting poison gas and they're supposed to go through a bunch of saw traps to find hypodermic needles with the cure)
I had an old tape recorder and a bunch of little mini-cassette tapes I found in the ancient warrens of the local Rite-Aid and I was mapping out this whole like web of character and plot

then I guess I just wandered away to do god knows what else

almost heaven, west virginia,
blue ridge mountains, shenandoah river
life is old there,
older than the trees,
younger than the mountains,
strangling the breeze,
dead I am the sky,
watching angels cry,
while they slowly turn,
conquering the worrrrrrrrrm

well yeah if you buy new. why don't you see if there are any local drug dealers who'd sell you a gently used phone they're no longer interested in

sexy anime bitches have been a critical load-bearing feature of computer mahjong games since the 1980s. no bitches = why did you even make this game when there are so many other mahjong games with bitches

in spite of this i don't think i ever fully grasped the rules and strategy of real mahjong well enough to undress anybody

it makes sense he would go out still working on projects. I guess it's time to finally read through the rest of dr slump and his one shots like I always wanted to. maybe reread dragon ball too. the guy was a master. right from chapter 1 (which he did in full color for the magazine, can't get this shit in the viz release at least) his composition and paneling was immaculate.

they don't make em like this any more. and certainly not weekly.

Alice?

WHO THE FUCK IS ALICE?

Have never been a huge fan of Dragonball but his impact is undeniably legendary and worthy of the reverence he has been awarded. RIP Toriyama

PhantomCatClock

I have the first three trade paperbacks and it definitely plays like he thought it'd be over in a year or two

also a billion times hornier than the anime, which is saying something

right yeah

"elemental" might be the word? somebody said something like "it never even occurred to me that he could die" and I think that's close to what I was feeling
he didn't command reverence from me like Satoshi Kon did and Hayao Miyazaki and Junji Ito do, but I just sort of took him as granted. like of course DBZ was extremely influential and crossed cultural boundaries. and he was just going to be around doodling monsters for shit like Dragon Quest and Blue Drago... huh. dude really liked dragons. and Dragon Ball Super was still going, and there's a Sand Land anime and game coming up. felt like he wasn't anywhere near done and was just hitting another stride

RobClock

I mourned his death by standing in a desert and screaming for twenty two minutes
