is ff2 as confusing and annoyingly backwards as people say? have to hit your own teammates to grind certain stats and stuff?

also I duckduckgoed pomodoro-san and learned of this Pomodoro Technique on the wikipedia but was disappointed that there does not seem to be an adorable Japanese tomato mascot named Pomodoro-San who promotes it

PhantomCatClock

there are custom/bespoke pomodoro timers all over the place and some basically double as fidget toys. I had a six-sided one with magnets everywhere and you just set it down with the amount of time you wanted as the face-up side and it'd start the timer

which would've been awesome if I never made it roll over by accident

uhhhhhhhhhhhhh i can see why they'd think that. I played the Pixel Remaster® with none of the cheaty speedups enabled but I would not be surprised to learn they did some rebalancing

since I have no self control, I already started III and: damn

II was a better game than I, yes, but there was a short list of things that I kept wishing they'd kept from the first one. III is the best parts of both and the job system goes down reeeeal smooth after II's classless/jobless system

the pixel remaster has a "optimal gear" button but for II it might as well say "random gear" -- one HUGE quality-of-life thing they added in the pixel remasters is little green arrows next to your guys when you hover over an item in a shop that's an upgrade, and due to the weirdly deep and wide assortment of positive/detrimental stats on every item, even the starter daggers would always show green arrows in II. Nice to see upgrades be upgrades again

we gotta get europe addicted to hockey

i can't believe how much cooler their sports fans are than ours but we're the ones with hockey, what the FUCK

VCRClock

hockey's the one where the players are violent and the fans are normal

football (europe) is the one where the players are normal and the fans are violent
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

PhantomCatClock

sadly, the archetype of "we have a huge guy with no hockey skills whose only purpose is to go out onto the ice and bodyslam people" is less common nowadays, but they made the nets bigger so at least goals happen faster

PhantomCatClock

this is what I'm hoping to remedy by sending it to Europe, though

that game holds up

I have the two NES controllers for Switch and that one STILL makes whoever I play it with stand up and shout YES no matter how chill they normally are

Slurpee

thrre's something very pure about any nes game just called like GOLF or PRO WRESTLING but Ice Hockey is unique in having never been improved upon

that and the Saturn Bomberman that supported up to 10 players, or Halo 1 where you could hook up multiple Xboxes to multiple tvs and have a 16 player LAN
the old ways are lost to us but couch multiplayer has never been defeated
if you can get two people in front of the same screen each with a controller in their hand you are tapping into a bit of resonant magic that lies mostly dormant. that's why the wii was so powerful, and the fighting game community continues to be

the American media bubble is impenetrable

apparently we do the Stanley Cup around the same time and just pretend there is no rest of the world. I legitimately had no idea the IIHF was even a thing

listen

I just learned packrats are real and I'm so happy I could cry

there are actually little critters that will take stuff from you and leave an acorn as "payment"

I thought it was a silly folk tale

how is life so beautiful
how can there be sadness in a world where there are little furry thieves who trade you acorns

Slurpee

apparently the source of the legend is that they just actually do that. what happens is they'll be carrying something in their mouths, and if they find something they like better, they'll discard whatever they're carrying so they have room to take and carry the new thing. they don't know a transaction has occurred, they just got distracted by finding an ever better cool thing to have, but the result from our perspectivd is something disappears and something silly is left as payment

Slurpee

LISTEN

packrats fill their nests with little found baubles and nobody knows why, they just like to

packrats then piss all over their nests, and in certain conditions it crystalizes, forming a hard and remarkably durable substance called amberat

these crystalized rat piss junk collages last tens of thousands of years and act as natural archeological archives. the crystalized pee contains bits and pieces of nearby plant and animal life, giving scientists an idea of what the area around the nest looked like at different time periods. trees with larger leaves thrive in warmer climates than the thin-needle-like leaves of deciduous trees, for exmaple. we are given information about the world by these dopey little critters, who behave like small honorable merchants entirely by accident because they are simply too silly to care about carrying two things at once

PhantomCatClock

yeah the New York Packrats and the Kingston Packrats had a friendly match last year, which was a little awkward because the Packrats are a basketball team and the Packrats are a cricket team

Canada has two, sort of. the Ottawa Packrats (football) and the Saskatchewan Pack Rats (ALSO FOOTBALL) are different because the latter spells it with a space
