I'm getting my third degree black belt for Taekwondo soon and it got me wondering if there are any other practitioners of Martial Arts in the clock crew. Any other black belts here? Anybody try it for a while and give up like a bitch? Am I the only person in the CC who can do a 360 kick? please respond

To be fair, you don't have anything. Clocks are just machines that tick.

Flounderman where did you get that photo of me

Quote from: RibsClock;1914550I've dabbled in Karate, Taekwondo, Aikido/Aikijutsu, and Kodenkan Jujutsu (and Jojutsu) but I've never really sought to progress deep into any particular art because they're expensive and I feel like they tend to either be sports or too traditional for practical application. I'd probably get my ass handed to me in a match because I'm out of practice and out of shape.

I agree with the Jeet Kune Do philosophy, but at the same time you have to be an excellent student of martial art theory and have good sparring partners to really develop in it. Krav Maga seems to at least come close, but no one nearby teaches it and even if they did I don't have money for classes at the moment.

I dunno if you count wrestling (the formal kind, not folding chair kind) but I did quite a bit of that when I was a freshman and junior in high school which has been like thirteen or fourteen years oh God
Finding a good dojo has a lot less to do with the martial art and more to do with the particular teacher. The school I teach at teaches a blend of classical and modern martial art, teaching classical poomse and having weekly full contact fighting. We're in the minority though; Taekwondo schools usually focus too much on children and ignore the "art" aspect, and Karate tends to focus too much on impractical classical techniques and they usually have a creepy sort of cult of personality thing going on with the instructors, acting as if they're some sort all knowing deity of martial arts or something. It's pretty much just luck finding a good gym, really.

In my experience, all kinds of people try martial arts but nerds are the only ones that stick to it and go super hard core about it. The nerds usually don't get good though, since they're not athletic enough and they usually have shitty coordination. And a lot of times they get SO into it that they try too hard and do it wrong. It's kind of sad how hard they try and they're still really bad. They remind me of Lil' Brudder

AlbinoClock

I had a green belt in Taekwondo when I was a kid.

Topcatyo

I had a purple belt (kid's division) in American Style Karate taught by my friend's mom.

Ultimately I didn't feel I was getting anything out of it, and when I got old enough to be in the adult division and was taken back down to a yellow belt, I was like "I'm out"

Hell yeah I took Goju-Ryu

I was a red belt...

I've studied and practiced Wing Chun style kung fu for about 4 years. In fact, my Clock design (the flower and crossed knives) really is based off the most commonly used logo for that style.
