Pretty cool stuff, dude. Definitely got a different feel than your older stuff, less sampled, or at the very least less straight samples.

Did anything specifically make you go in this direction or was it just sorta how your music evolved?

I just found myself in a rut, bored of what I was making. Which happens to everyone, this one lasted like 6 months. was listening to a lot of four tet and shit so you can hear some of the groove based stuff in there. it was a good feeling to liberate myself from the confines of hiphopy stuff or dance floor bangers and just see what came out

I feel ya, generally when you find yourself in that rut and trying out new stuff is when you hit your next big step of improvement, so keep playing.
Now that you mention I can definitely hear the Four Tet influence
