Yet another pistol whip.  The man tied to the chair spat blood on the ground.
A click.  The captive looked up into the barrel of the pistol.
“I want you to remember what it feels like, the disappointment that you were so close to dying instantly.  Boom.  Quick.  Unexpected.  Painless.  When I, your last glimmer of hope, leave you and this room forever, I want you to remember just how close you were to getting off easy.”
He put the gun back in its holster and left the room, Gavrilo Princip screaming repeated pleadings of “No!”  He never looked back, and the last he heard before getting out of earshot were the rats devouring him.
