This show is awesome. The writing is good, too. Is anybody else watching it?  The story is a guy telling his kids about "How I Met Your Mother". It centers around five friends in the search of love, etc.

I got the first two seasons on DVD, and I can't wait to get more.

OKAY SO. I'm going to borrow the theme from the Always Sunny in Phili thread and link pics of the cast and describe them. But I'm kind of lazy so I'm not going to drop every last detail. That's what imdb is for. But seriously, it's best to watch the show all the way from the beginning. That way you catch all references and inside jokes, and there are plenty of them.

Barney played by Neil Patrick Harris. The best character on the show in my opinion. He's a complete womanizer, and he has no shame. He's awesome. And he's going to tell you that atleast once an hour. He always has insane plans to get some action. And it works! Sometimes. Even if he doesn't get any action, he still has a legendary story about it.

This is Ted. Played by some guy. He's the main character. He's okay. He does the right thing, etc. The average dude.

Lily played by Allison Hannigan. Remember her from American Pie? She's cute and charming. She's engaged to Marshall at the start of the show. She's a kindergarten teacher that loves to paint.

Marshall played by Jason Segel. Remember him from Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Yeah. He's funny and has his moments. In the show, he's studying to be a lawyer. Eventually he winds up working underneath Barney. He is Ted's best friend. Though Barney would disagree with that statement.

Robin. A Canadian news girl. The main love interest of Ted at the start of the show.

Oh yeah, and it's narrated by this guy from the year 2030

WHOA.

Guest stars include people like Wayne Brady, Mandy Moore, Enrique Iglesias, Britney Spears, and James Vanderbeek.

Now go watch this show so it is never cancelled.

Topcatyo

I watch it.
It's pretty good, though at times feels a little cliche, but it is better than most sitcoms you see out there that have laugh-tracks with them.
The scripts for the episodes themselves are well done, though.  They have really varied situations for every episode, so you watch a new episode and think "Hey, they've done this already!"

Marlin Clock

Yeah, we all watch this at home. My brother is the biggest fan, he gets weirdly into some shows, like before this I could swear he memorized every single Seinfeld episode.

PoisonshroomClock

It's okay, I definitely wouldn't go out and buy a box set of it or anything though.

AC Slater

Oh woah! Bob Saget is in it? I'm going to have to check this show out.

Biblo

never really got into it but alyson hannigan i'd just like to point out how attractive alyson hannigan is

AMPEEEM

I saw the first episode when it premiered, and I did like it, but I haven't kept up with it since then.

He's a disembodied voice, represented as Future Ted from 2030, so there's really not that much with Saget.

If you own the DVDs, you're able to better appreciate the series. Instead of watching a single episode once in a week and forgetting details inbetween shows, you're able to watch at your own pace.

If I didn't borrow the box sets and only saw the show on TV, I would only think of it as an okay TV series. DVDs > TV.

And let alone missing the show that week, trying to get filled in, and having to wait another week for another to air. Well, unless you have Tivo.

depends on the show!
any sort of sketch show with catchphrases is fucking ruined by dvd

...usually the fault of lazy writing, but still

Marlin Clock

Not too much stuff actually dealing with the overarching story usually happens per-episode, this happened more in season 3, but still not to the extent that it's overwhelming.

My parents watch this show sometimes.

In one of the episodes I watched Neil Patrick Harris' boyfriend appeared as Alyson Hannigan (Willow she's Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) 's ex which is sort of awesome.
