Just think of all the uses the clock crew would have for a time machine! The most obvious of which is going back in time and and hunting ourselves for sport. What greater sport can there be than facing off against one you know to be a true equal? And of course the flesh would be a renewable resource, because we need only go slightly farther back in time each time we want to go for a hunt.


Plus in such a contest the only person who could possibly win is you, yet it still has an air of healthy competition. I can say with some certainty that there is no healthier sport than traveling back in time and murdering yourself as game. Yes.

I wouldn't go to the past to hunt myself, I'd go to the future to hunt myself.  That way I'd be hunting a smarter version of me, but it'd also be the added challenge that my future self would know it can't kill me, because if it did, it would cease to exist.  Thus, my future self's only option is to run, and the chase will be intense because my future self will have learned from its mistakes when it hunted its future self.
