Need help in Spore Creature Creator

I download it and it runs fine when you play it once, but if you try and exit and play it again I get this alert message that says

Couldn't find default preferences--the data directory may be missing[1004]

Then if I click okay the screen goes out of resolution and black and then I have to ctlaltdelete and then click out of this box that says

failure to read compiled materials--compiler failure?[1004]

Then two of the same file called

Exception Report OWNER-PC 07-22-08 18.23.04 minidump.mdmp

pops up on my desktop.

Does anyone know whats wrong/how I can fix it?

My only advice would be to Google these error messages and see if someone else has had the same problem as you who's had their question answered.
