Serious question here: Are there large scale prop companies supporting TV shows with shit like fake newspapers and generic bags of chips that just say "CHIPS" on them ect, or do film companies just build a stock made by in-house propateers making stuff as the need arises?

There are companies that do just that, but in many cases the prop guy has to throw something together, print out a label for a non-existent soda-pop to tape over the coke label, etc. there are libraries of royalty-free fake imagery to use for such purposes. In this case it appears to be a purchasable newspaper prop though.
