We waste way too much time with this crap. What is the point of having a staff make choices if all we do is toss around silly debates where we piss on each others shoes? I propose we simply close the initiative board, and if somebody has a really good idea they should suggest it to the staff. Or we could watch Ribs fight 8 men with his penis and a toothpick.

AstronautClock

yeah it feels like its just a troll forum

SchnozzberryClock

Gonna have to agree.

It was a great idea but there were barely any restrictions for what someone could create an initiative for. Now it's a haven for people trying to poke holes in the system while being immune to the usual bans and gasses one would deservedly receive for pulling this shit on any other forum. Not to mention it's an intolerable source of drama.

How many initiatives did we even pass? I seem to only remember two, and both of them were started for the sake of trolling the staff rather than actually helping the site.

why not both?

in all seriousness though, i'd much rather see some type of arbitrary enforcement on initiations, perhaps something like limiting each person to one initiative every three months. closing down a cool system like this seems a waste on a few bad apples, i'd hate to see it go.

AbsintheClock

Name one good initiative that has passed since we opened it?

Allowing discussion of torrents so long as they're torrents of public domain stuff. Maybe making Pineapple super admin, too.

That's it, though.

AbsintheClock

To be fair the piney for admin thing would have been suggested in the staff anyhow. So yeah the piracy thing.

SchnozzberryClock

Like I said, the piracy thing wasn't an issue. Clam n' pals were exploiting the logic of the rules and then hype the issue when they got banned over it to cause a wedge in the community over something completely trivial.

buttplug

I say we make a forum in Spam called "The Clammo n' MFC Bitchfest" where only clam and miraclefruit are allowed to post.

It's not so much as what it has done for us so far (relatively, it's only been open for a few months), but it leaves room for us as a community to grow, and it gives the people the ability to have a say in it rather than the staff at the time.

Make it so that's the only place they can post and we're golden.

PEANUTBUTTERCLOCK

I wanna make an initiative one day tho when i think of one

PEANUTBUTTERCLOCK

Put a cap on the number of initiatives you can make per month or something

Losperman

Quote from: RibsClock;1881213We did consider this, but I didn't feel like folks would want that (like removing their ability to petition for policy changes like that)

I guess I was wrong, I'm really kind of shocked how one-sided this vote is.

I'm not. Like Absinthe said, look at the positives that have come from them versus the inane and pointless drivel. Allowing a democratic system of voting for staff made the site political enough, but the initiatives basically turns everyone into a congressman.

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

The only thing I can think of that could fix this is banning people from making initiatives if too many get shot down. But at this point I'm sick of this shit and I figure clam and his henchmen will find some new way to fuck it up so I'm voting yes.

pop-tart

The problem is not the initiatives forum it is the users who don't respect the initiative forums and use it for spam, personal attacks and petty gripes.

AnkhClock

Yeah this was a great idea ruined by the fact that the CC is full of assholes.
