EA's horrific downward spiral; using bots to sign scapegoat poll

EA's public relations lately has been like a train wreck.

After winning "worst company in america", getting tons of outrage over the shitty ending of mass effect 3, and the $300 million dollar The Old Republic game tanking, their stocks have started dropping sharply. As a result, EA has gone into full defense mode.

On the bright side, their desperation for positive PR coerced them to release free DLC for Mass Effect 3, something that obviously would have been paid DLC if they weren't in such dire straights.

On the darker side, EA has done something so ridiculous that I can hardly believe it was happening unless I saw it for my own eyes.

Not only are they claiming all the negative press to be a result of militant homophobes, they even went so far as to create a poll supporting themselves and using bots to fill the petition.

Can we just set fanboyism to the side for a moment and look on in awe at how horrible one of the largest video game publishers in the world is? Regardless of the quality of their games, they are earning their "word company in America" award.


As for who cares, these rapidly falling stocks and lower than expected game sales will probably result in canceled games and closed game studios to cut costs. There might also be more free DLC coming out as damage control, or even game sales. I don't think it will go so far as driving EA out of business, but they're definitely going to be forced to make some changes by the stock holders.

EDIT: I also forgot this before, but the EA digital distribution program "Origin" was also a failure and there are rumors that it included spyware. It's too late for me to look for a source on that though and I'm going to sleep

I'm not denying EA is a bag of shit these days with all their fuckups, I think they just want to call attention to themselves like this and yeah damage control pretty much. I'd rather ignore it myself. I dont like EA enough to pay attention to them. though its pretty funny to watch the drama unfold.

What I mean is, there is no way that EA could ever possibly no matter how badly they wanted to, be as bad as a bank. They've a videogame company, they CAN'T ruin anybodies life. In a bank the decisions of a single person can ruin thousands of lives.
