Lump Clock

Quote from: Sinister Clock;1953721Just pointing out that Tree has lied in the past, has stolen A THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS, and has only actually returned $10 after attention was brought to it which may impact his future job interviews! It's entirely plausible that Tree only intends to do the minimum he can so that he can get preserve his reputation and then fuck off again.

Don't be so quick to forgive, don't forget he stole A THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS from charity. If you don't think that the CC could have done ANYTHING with A THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS, then maybe you shouldn't be here?

Great point, something for all of us to remember when approaching this subject, even Tree himself. If he is really sincere it will not be the last donation he will contribute, and I would like to believe he is honestly sincere, but only time will tell. However this is a De-mock-racy so we are trying to be civil about it. We [the staff] will give Tree the benefit of the doubt [despite past crimes] because we don't have a means to enforce debt, but mostly because this is an internet community that thrives on acceptance through harsh means; If a man who has done such wrong can be accepted [gradually] back into our community than it is the ultimate proof that CC = <3. If he flakes then it proves his intent and we move on for good, closing a door that has been left open for years because of young ignorance and apathy. We learn, we let live. Lets get on with the CC and shit.

Don't blow up my words, this is an internet cartoon group that makes cartoons to fuck with thirteen year olds, maybe you should lighten up a bit.

This in so many places sounds ridiculous, you basically just strung together a bunch of conspiracies based on information HE just gave us. Doesn't it sound a little ridiculous to you that he would need to preserve his internet reputation and that it would have any impact on his job hunt? None of us knew what he was up to before he decided to come back, so I really doubt that's it. He could of just walked away with the money and none of us would of been able to do anything about it.

Anyway, I think Tree should just pay the money he owes back and everything can be cool after that. Tree had some fucked up shit happen all at once in his life and I know people in similar circumstances who have also made stupid decisions. I'd like for the group to forgive him.

Sinister Clock

You don't think that if news of you stealing $1000 from the animation community you ran would be a detriment to employment? I'm not saying that this is definitely Tree's motive, I'm saying that you shouldn't just assume his motives to be pure.

Plenty of people have fucked up shit going on their lives, much worse than Tree, but if should we let them hurt others? No.

Again, I'm not saying we should all hate Tree and assume the worst; I'm just saying we should reserve judgements until he's actually made a sizeable gesture.

Posting to agree with MSPaint.

We are not a charity. That $1000 would probably have bought some tablets and cash prizes, but in no way is that a guarantee of invaluable artistic contributions or activity. If I don't feel like making a movie, a chance at $50 in prize money is not going to entice me to do so. The Clock Crew's drop in activity and productivity has nothing at all to do with not having that money.

If I were TreeClock, I'd be pretty concerned about people associating my professional identity with an outstanding $1000 debt, too. Wanting to look good for potential employers is kind of a big fucking deal if one of the things you're trying to do is make enough money to be able to spare $1000. Impure motive, my ass.

What matters is what happens from now on. Try cooling it until there's another fuck-up. It's not like we still don't know where to find Tree if he disappears from the Clock Crew.
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

I only read the line that says we're not a charity.

We are not a full fledged charity but we are non-profit and have done charitable things in the past (wade the cow anyone??)

*rolls eyes so hard they fall out of head* I hope you're joking, anybody or group who does a nice thing is a charity now. We are not a charity.

VCR, the problem with what they're trying to say is that none of us would of known what Tree would of been up to if he didn't come back to apologize and tell us what he is up to. What I'm trying to say is that he could of never came back and it could of been left at that, easily.

I imagine I'd be incredibly embarrassed too, if I did something so stupid. Also he could of just ignored Lump.

the reason we started doing prizes in the first place is because it gives people more of a reason to make flash, and put more effort into it. that in turn will generate attention for the clock crew and attract newer members who will produce more flash.  for a long time we were funded almost entirely by lump's donations, while generous, was nowhere near what we could have offered had we had access the money entrusted to tree.  if you were some scrub flash artist and you tried really hard on a clock day flash and won like $500, wouldn't you be so fucking excited to make more?

$500 represents half the money Tree stole/lost, so our first assumption is that we'd even hand out prizes that big.
I'm assuming you're imagining a $500 grand prize. Maybe a chance at $500 would entice some people to compete, though I still think we're largely talking about a userbase that, over the past few years, has been predominantly in college, working full-time jobs, or has been otherwise inclined to spend most of their time on things other than Flash.
The second assumption is that any scrub flash artist could win $500. Money motivates seasoned pros as much as it does amateurs, and everybody saves their best for Clockday. If I had a chance at that money, I might be excited to make more movies, but I'd have to be one of the Clock Crew's best to be in the running, and I'm not. I don't even think I'd make a movie for a chance at $500 today, because I'd rather work a bunch of extra hours for money I was certain of getting than bust my ass on a Flash movie, motivated mostly by money, and then lose.

This just in: Jake and the Never Land Pirates, My Little Pony and Harvey Birdman were deemed "irrelevant" as proof of Flash as a powerful and popular medium by a man calling himself 'Nintendoclock.'

Multimillionaire Brendon Small, creator of Flash animated hits Home Movies and Metalocolypse, responded to this news with "What the fuck is a Nintendoclock?"

so you agree if we had an extra thousand dollars lying around for prize money, everyone would have been motivated to put out better movies
