There's a reason the DS is the best selling handheld of all time. It really has a great library with a variety of games.

Dementium: The Ward is good if you like old-fashioned DOOM-esque FPS gameplay mixed with pretty decent horror for a portable game.

But I'd go for everything Thor said first or Phoenix Wright.

Obligatory mention of main Nintendo titles such as Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Fire Emblem, etc.

No one has mentioned Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword or Grand Theft Auto Chinatown wars.

Ninja gaiden is entirely stylus controlled and pulls it off really well, especially considering its a 3d action game. I've never seen another game in that style implement controls like that and make it feel natural.

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars is pretty much like PS2 era GTA's but done in a top-down camera style. It's pretty good if you can adapt to the the birds-eye-view style of play.

Thor's suggestions are all really good as well.
