Convince me to either learn Japanese or Dutch

I find Japanese a bit easier to learn and find resources for. Mainly I want to know Japanese for the animes and internet forums, open myself up to new cultures and steal all their ideas and that. I want to learn Dutch so I could eventually maybe live in Amsterdam but maybe not I dunno.

I'm biased, but I have a feeling you're better off learning Japanese in a formal program, or at least working directly with native speakers. Fluency, if attainable, takes longer to achieve than it does in other languages. Literacy requires even further rote memorization and effort. If you don't make the effort to pick up basic everyday cultural concepts, you'll probably look like a buffoon. You will never not be a foreigner, regardless of how good you get.

If Dutch is anything like German (hint: it is), it's probably not that complicated for an English speaker to pick up.

japanese:
-pros: you get to talk with asian women in thier own language and you will impress them
-knowing japanese is always a great asset in work, and/or in your bio.
-you can read the anime.

cons:
its very hard to learn.

dutch:
-pros:
alot easier then japanese, you can actually start speaking dutch well after a couple years.
and like VCR said, yes, they remind me of german, so they must be relatively easy.

-you can talk with dutch girls (like miracle-froot suggested)

-you can order EVERYTHING from a coffee shop with ease.

-you can speak the arcane language of pirate clock, dwarfinator, astronaut and many more. epicness.

i'm planning on listening to some podcasts i downloaded to learn italian, my 25% native tongue. interested in seeing how accurate my italian will be if i ever get to visit family in italy again, because i feel like i have a healthy amount of skepticism about it.

If you want to be remotely successful at either, be prepared to spend 2+ hours a day studying. Once you "have it down", prepare to be contiuning that 2h a day of study to keep it up. It's not so much learning a language as it is living it.
