If you want to be remotely successful at either, be prepared to spend 2+ hours a day studying. Once you "have it down", prepare to be contiuning that 2h a day of study to keep it up. It's not so much learning a language as it is living it.

I think I'm going to try to learn Dutch, but I have to find some decent resources for it first, and get into the habit of doing 20 minutes a day or whatever.

maybe you can find some private tutors in your area. or google around the internet for some audio help stuff

I forgot about this thread but I've been learning Dutch a bunch. I've stopped recently because Duolingo was being a dick, but I'm going to get back into it. Usually I can read a lot of Dutch posts on the internet without using a translator, sometimes. I read this one facebook image about a dutch lady going to a museum and complaining because they only spoke German, then the facebook customer service person responding in only German. It was rather humorous.

I can't really speak or type in Dutch, since there's nothing to jog my memory there, but I'll get back on it with all them weird g's and w's and shit.

I tried going with an online tutor, but she kept making me aware of how often I, an English man, say "sorry", then I started apologising for apologising too much and it just nose dived from there.

Yeah it is pretty similar, I talk to my German mate about it sometimes. Like it being thirty minutes to an hour instead of past.

I should probably go back to online tutoring now I have a bit of money, first I just need to hook up a machine that'll electrocute me every time I apologise.
