I made my own DK1 equivalent this year and I've been teaching myself Maya for the passed few.. I want to make something worth while that will get me access to an HTC vive.

Have you guys had any experience on vr or ar like hololens? what are your hopes and fears for the future?

Stuff like JanusVR is really disappointing to me. it seems there is this whole wave of 'experience your web browser like never before!' malarkey that is popular.. When I think the focus should be more on pushing the types of believable experiences you can have.. :artsist:

I'm pretty excited about VR. I got a Note 4 and a shitty £20 plastic VR case. It's a bit shit, and only really good for watching 3D movies, even then the apps for it are shit. Eventually I'll be able to afford a Gear VR after a bunch of other expenses that need to come first.

Eventually I want to get a new computer finally, that would be able to run all this shit at 120FPS with no lag and that, along with a Vive or something similar.

I think VR is the start of something great, but it probably won't be for a while. Rather than making the latest FPS or whatever just that bit more graphically intense, I'm more looking forward to other applications, like hiring a small immigrant boy to move the fleshlight in time with the VR porn actress.

Is that too offensive a joke I don't know, I've got Jared on the mind.

For real though, I'm looking forward to something like an actually good Second Life that's not a piece of shit. I'm not looking forward to sitting in a chair with a controller, I want to be moving about and punching and stomping and shit. The technology's not that fair off either, there's shit like the Cyberlinth Virtualizer or whatever, which is cool because you're walking about in GTA 4, then you get in a car and sit down, and the harness lowers so you can actually sit in the virtual car. Apparently rotation and movement is important so there's a long way to go before we get some sort of really adaptable version of this.

I want those things from pacific rim when they're in the robots. Like robot shoes, or basically robot arms holding their feet which simultaneously mocaps where your feet are and provides resistance to simulate the virtual thing/giant robot. We basically have this now, but for arms, which is still cool and also another thing I want.

I actually want smellovision as well, I think that's an integral component of VR. Plus Disney's been working on precise tactile feedback using electrical currents on smooth surfaces (ie touchscreens) that would be amazing as gloves for your penis also fingers, which would only be aided by greater force feedback of an exoskeleton.

Then there's a bunch of other stuff like feeling the wind against your skin from a fan on yet another robot arm.

Basically my dream of the future is a bunch of robot arms, like that one boss in Metal Gear, that's who I want to grow up to be.
