truth is i incorrectly anticipated a clinton victory because i, like most left-leaning urban americans, in spite of a sincere aspiration toward objectivity, was ensconced in metropolitan media perspective that ignored the appeal that closing international trade held for the unemployed workers of the midwest- people who did not benefit from the obama presidency's economic recovery, and for whom NAFTA, which hillary clinton's husband signed into law, is still an open wound which bled manufacturing jobs overseas and left many American towns economically devastated

i don't think reducing international trade, which I'm not even sure i believe he intends to do, would bring manufacturing employment to its pre-1994 levels, even if corporations resume domestic manufacturing, because technological advancement has reduced the human labor component of production irretrievably. and i think trade is mutually beneficial on a national level and reducing it will only harm our economy and that of our foreign trade partners without offering a realistic solution the unemployed american worker. but hopefully im wrong about that, too, since trump is winning lol

in any case it's reassuring that the systemic inertia in our government is not so severe that unexpected things can't happen, and hopefully this will assuage people's paranoia about the supposedly predetermined nature of government institutions, and hopefully this will also awaken the political establishment to the plight of American workers who don't have the luxury of relying on the service sector of an urban economy, and we can start offering them real solutions. im a big dumb socialist so, minimum universal income, duh, but that's not going to happen, so, more realistically, to start with, the tech sector is still outsourcing jobs, and West African nations are finding prosperity by training their populations to meet the demand. I think that's something we can bring home and use to put labor and wealth back into the places that need it. the fact is people want to work.

hopefully he wasn't serious about moving to a nuclear first-strike policy, hopefully he wasn't serious about forcing members of the u.s. military to torture, hopefully he wasn't serious about a instituting a complete shutdown of all muslims entering the u.s., hopefully he wasn't serious about groping women against their consent, hopefully he wasn't serious about hiring a special prosecutor to indict clinton over a charge she's already been cleared of. if he builds the border wall, hopefully
