I'm pretty sure Marvel was courting controversy for publicity, but they don't seem to have gained an iota of mainstream attention

like, do regular people even KNOW captain america was an agent of hydra for the last 13 months?
do they know he's a super soldier again?
do they know he'd stopped being a super soldier?
do they know he's alive again?
did they even know he died?

hypothesis: nobody cares, comic books! stop trying to shock people into paying attention to you! just tell good stories

RobClock

i heard about all of these things but my derision for marvel comics is such that i can't even feign anger over the state of the company at this stage as its impossible to care anymore

PhantomCatClock

Between Rob and me we're the perfect comic hating machine. I can't be disappointed in DC because I never pay any attention to them

But the only thing on this list I heard is Captain America died and that was back when I was in fucking high school (the sniper, right?) but like, what's surprising about that

this is the company that did the X-Men.

how many times did Wolverine die and com a series that cut the bullshit and had to literally name a character The Phoenix from all the dying and coming back

I stick to trade paperbacks right now and since those are more than $10 my entire intake of Marvel comics for the last ..decade? has been borrowing books from my friend who is more into it than I

and no, sorry, please be disappointed in me senpai

It's impossible to be disappointed in DC atm because their publications are all pretty good right now

T. Someone who reads primarily Superman books

Of course they did switch up the writing and art teams shortly after I could no longer afford to be subscribed to like 7 books at once so maybe things are worse now

any archie media in which jughead seriously loves something other than food is not canon as far as i'm concerned
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

man I haven't given a fuck about marvel beyond rolling my eyes at them in years. I don't even know what dc is doing anymore. at this point I just read japanese manga anime comics if I want superpower crap. one guy makes it, there's a beginning middle and end with multiple arcs, and it's over. one punch man hunter x hunter and one piece are all the serial super power comic action I need in my life right now.

also jughead is hamburgersexual in all possible timelines and continuities. any evidence to the contrary is coincidental, or the work of a skrull.

I only heard about Captain America being a secret HYDRA agent because people posted about it all over Twitter.

And since then all I've heard about is the fact that the whole arc was written by the pro-nazi brother of that nazi Richard Spencer.

PhantomCatClock

Can a Captain America story written by someone who's pro-nazi really be considered canon?

It can if you write Captain America as a secret nazi, apparently
